I actually brought it back in this morning. I have 200 miles left on the warranty, and the dealership is performing a PPI. Obviously everything found will be fixed under factory warranty.

I have only put 500 miles on the vehicle since the wishbones were replaced, but I do have a popping noise now when backing up the X5 whilst turning. So they are going to take a look at that.

It was something with the brakes if I recall correctly.

Exactly what happened to me...

I am out of warranty. Heard the noise, mentioned to my SA during my oil change. Shelled out $1513.

Hate seeing that. How many miles did you have when this happened?

@88K

The good thing is, the previous/first owner purchased the maintenance package. I got free oil change, rear brakes and wipers during this appointment.

*SOLVED* ...maybe

I used to have a Ford Territory (Australian) that used to do the ABS Motor test as you started driving - loud clunk as you moved off. Our 50i will clunk as you back out the drive - no real surface change, gutter or bumps etc - but you get a mechanical clunk. Tonight I went out just after Mrs got home (car warmed up) so I put my foot down a little. Clunk 100 M further down the road than normally! Does the ABS motor test after a certain time after moving off? It is mounted on rubber mounts, but you still must hear it. Test will be to disconnect it - fault codes coming but I can clear them. Will update.

Does this help anyone?

https://www.aboutautomobile.com/Tech...MW/X5/Steering

Does this mean that BMW will do something about the repair or am I stuck paying for this myself? I see they captured a summary of the issue but they don't offer a solution?

Only if under warranty.

Replaced both my wishbones within the last 6 months and now I'm intermittently getting a clunk again from the driver side. FML.

Well had it in for a 2 hour alignment (insane) and asked to check the noise. Found to be now the upper driver side control arm. Of course. And just had the alignment done.

Anyone know the difference between the standard upper control arms and the +- 30MIN versions?

Edit: got the car back and they recommend I install the camber correcting version of the control arms. Which is the +-30. Not sure which one I need yet. Gonna get a call back in the morning.

That's + or - 30 minutes of camber is my guess.

The wishbones are known to bend per a BMW independent shop owner I know. Interesting they recommended the camber correcting one. What were the results of the alignment. Can you post the before/after numbers (or better yet, the machine print out)?

Are you on the OEM suspension or are you lowered with an aftermarket kit?

Curious because I am getting this all too common noises as everyone has described. I'm under warranty for another 22K miles, but I guarantee the dealer is going to say the repair will not be covered since I with the ACS kit.

Apparently it's two different topics the tech was going down. So first he recommended the offset camber for the upper control arm since he couldn't quite get the camber perfectly aligned. I'll post the results when I can. The noise however is coming from the ball joint of my lower wishbone which pisses me off cuz that thing I replaced not 6 months ago. But as I installed myself I feel like the dealer is going to cause me some trouble. She already tried to tell me how it needs to be installed under tension which I told her I know and did as I used NEWTIS to install. FML

I am lowered but only been lowered since October.

I had the same issue, driving on very bad roads (almost off roads) the sound was very easy to hear, after checking everything below, they finally ended changing the steering box for a newer model (new BMW SKU #)
I'm not sure if the sound went off completely since it only sounds on very bad roads or when you enter to a garage for example with your wheels totally turned....
I don't care much about it since my car is already 3 years old and this happened when it was brand new, I have plans to change my car anytime now

so was this your fix? i'm having similar popping thump noise coming from the front of the car. it occurs every time i back out of the garage while the rear tires are in the street and the front tires are coming off the driveway onto the street. not only is it a popping sound, but it feels like two plates of metal sliding off of each other.

i have an appointment at the Stealer thursday. hopefully they can resolve this i currently have ~ 10k miles.

Hope the noise won't reoccur.

My lower control arm went bad around 30k but there is a sib covering the arms and they're covered under warranty

No it's for older models I think. Noise is coming from the ball joint of the lower control arm.
