You would share the two middle hooks. Two buckless on each.

Not sure how the 7 seater will help you? If your mother in law can't fit between the 2 kids she's going to have fun climbing into the 3rd row. Alternatively I dont think you want to put the childseats in the 3rd row either.

I can fit 2 kids and an adult in the 2nd row no problem, but the kids are on boosters rather than full child seats.

I have 1 car seat and a booster now. when I need to fit an adult in second row with both kids I take the seat back off the booster move to middle and it will work. I do ha e the 3rd row and can put booster there if need be. Hope this helps.

Looks good

Also, keep in mind that 3rd row on X5 doesnt have hooks for car seats in the back, so technically you wont be able to put a car seat in there. While, i was looking for x5 with 3rd row initially, too fit an adult it would have been very tight fit. so ended up not going down that road.

I've used the cargo tie downs to attach the child seat strap. It seems pretty secure. My grandson has graduated to a booster, so I don't have an issue and he loves the third row.

Valid points guys, thanks. I feel like a wider 2nd row would have been ideal instead of 3rd row. All is needed is probably 2 inches to make it work, but I do realize BMW wasn't aiming at family with 2 kids probably when designing x5
It's an omission on their part if you ask me, because a lot of families buy x5 instead of 5 series and in North America it's a huge market for family with 2 kids that want SUV that is a bit more premium than usual Hyundai/Ford. BMW even said it themselves that SUV (SAV) market is booming right now and X series are a new bread and butter product that makes majority of sales and money for BMW
You don't even have to widen the platform or body to get 2 inches on rear seats - just different seat quarter panels and door trim would have yielded those 2 inches. I bet new x5 will be wider and will have more space in rear seats

Also another question to consider...who always sits in the 3rd row? Your wife or the mother in law? The two kids will no doubt get the middle row.

One of them will always be disappointed, now you choose
