Real World Compare - X5: 3.5/3.5d Vs 40e
HIi,
thinking i might be getting a 40e X5 and comparing to a other 3.5 and 3.5d, which feels faster and more refined i guess... more of a BMW feel? Question #2: with 40e, you can not get suspention and active rear either, so i am stuck with what? regular sprints? which springs would i put in on it? H&R sport all around? trying to see how i could hypothetically lower that car. Also, any chips for the car yet? to make it faster!!! thanks!

Does that mean it's super soft?

BMW model numbers can be a little misleading, the 35i is actually a 3.0 liter 6 cylinder as opposed to a 3.5 liter, and the 35d is also a 3.0 liter.

no, not necessarily. The air suspension is to used to level the rear for the extra weight of the battery. I believe 3rd row X5s have them. It's also useful if you're towing.

What is this BMW feel you are looking for? Is it just speed? Then yeah the electric motor and instant take off from the 40e might be it for you.
Is it handling? Then you would need dynamic handling suspension. Is it the sound of an engine and exhaust? Get the 50i or if you can the X5M. Not sure exactly what you mean by BMW feel but IMHO an electric car is far from a BMW feel because it is soulless with no engine growl and exhaust notes.

Well looking for a 5.0 anywhere on lease assumption.... (in Cali, preferred) but can't find anything good
So pricing out new ones and lease prices are just not good at all unfortunately. So was considering the 40e or the 3.5 with mppk..... I currently drive an i3 2016 so I know all out the electric power and just sold the alpine B7 F01.... Just deciding is hard, and nothing good on lease trade... my i3 and B7

I had a '17 40e for 6 months, and am now entering my 3rd month with my '17 35d.
For me...100% 35d! Once the battery depletes on the 40e, and it does NOT last long at all....you drive around in a 4 cyl. Now, this 4cyl. is surprisingly quick, but not amazing on the highway and it sounds like SHIT!! I always felt like I was driving a $75k Corolla! 40e is much softer of a ride, but the 35d feels more like a BMW to me. The 35d, IMO, has that perfect BMW comfortable-frim feel. LOVE the suspension on my 35d. Also, on the 40e....many times when parking the suspension drops itself, and it only re-levels when you open a door or start the car. On the 40e, you will HAVE to constantly manually switch between Normal, EcoPro and Battery Save. I found I spent so much time trying to keep my battery, charge my battery, look for a Chargepoint, etc...that I never got to enjoy a BMW!! If you want something very Eco...get an i3. But with my 35d, I am traveling 500+ miles on every tank, and my driving is prob. 50% street, 50% highway. TONS of torque, sounds amazing accelerating and is a blast to drive and it has been flawless! |
