Gear Shift Knob Trim DIY?

Anyone know how to take off the trim on the gear shift knob? Just got the CF trim in the mail and wanted to see if anyone replaced it yet.

Car still hasn't been delivered but just wanted to know ahead of time. I'm so excited, hopefully I get the call soon. It's stuck in California waiting to get shipped to Hawaii.

Thanks ahead of time!

In case you don't see my reply at the other thread.

By Hanger from the E70 Thread. Should be similar if anything. It's a start. More people can chime in for details.

"Just installed the X5M one..
It is actually VERY easy. Turn the ring located at the bottom of the leaver 90´ clockwise.
and the whole knob comes a part with just prying your finger nails between the metal and the leather.
Click the whole thing back together. Plug and play. Turn the lower ring back 90´counterclock and you just got one of these :

I wonder if the F15 version is the same...we have a leather boot on ours now. I'll take a look.

The F15 is different.

You need to remove the glass window on the shifter using a pry or trim removal tool. It's glued. Be careful not to crack it. Underneath is a tiny screw. Once removed, the trim will come off. The "P" button is loose so be careful it doesn't fall. Also make sure you line it up properly when installing the new trim. Once the new trim is installed and screwed in place, install the new glass window. Done.

Oh my...that's quite involved. I have a feeling my tech is going to love this project! Thanks for the tip, J. I'll pass this on to him.

It was really easy to swap, you definitely need the plastic trim remover tool. Just put some blue painter's tape on one edge and pry the cover off. Clean up the adhesive and put the new one on. Took all of 5 minutes to do.
