Hood emblem without pins/grommets ?
Is it ok to attach the front hood emblem with just adhesive all around the back or the pins/grommets are a must ?
My dealer says the new ones are without the pins, probably they do not have stock for the same. BMW X5 - F15 |

The pins are more to line the roundals up than anything else. The pins don't clip in they just slide in the holes. The 3m tape holds it on the car.

what happened to your grommets? They should have been on the car when they pulled the emblems. The 3m tape is more than strong enough to hold a roundel on as long as its applied to a correctly prepped surface. Do the grommets keep water out is a different story.

I would say new grommets with a new Roundel...I put the grommets in the same category as a condom..."one & done". Once a grommet has been used...I wouldn't reuse it because it's all stretched out and worn from years of service...and isn't likely to have the retention capabilities it had when initially installed. If BMW is using double sided tape now...perhaps the grommets aren't needed anymore. But if you have the holes in your hood/trunk/tailgate for the grommets...personally, I'd still use them. And you're sure you're ordering the correct Roundel (based on your VIN)? I looked up the part nbr on one of the online part database sites...then did a quick google search using the 11 digit BMW part nbr that was listed for my 2014 F15 X5...and pics that showed up in that search have pins on the rear side:

I replaced mine recently as it had been stolen (insert swear word here), it was the same as Qsilver7 has posted above with the two posts and it came with 2 new grommets, although the guy at the BMW dealer did mention that they had to be ordered seperately (they were like $0.50 each or something). Personally, I would use this over tape as it keeps the holes properly sealed...

Lot of drama over some roundels lol. You'll be fine. Just install them.

Grommets are only on the rear, not the fronts! Replaced both with IND backed out version (which get rid of the chrome).
