Dinan release

I spoke to Dinan today and they informed me that the software release for f15 3.5i will be released in the next month or so. Curious who out there has been holding out for this and plans on getting it? Anyone get impatient and already install something else?

I am planning to get the upgrade. Just ticked off I had to drive my car for a year w/o it.

@jman26, been on BMS since the first month of ownership.
Started with BMS Stage 1, then upgraded to JB4 Stage 2, and now I am on the JB4 Stage 2 with wastegate and fuel control (supposedly this setup is Stage 3 but BMS haven't confirmed yet, since it is still on testing stage).
Where are you located at?
Maybe you can tell us a little bit more why waiting for Dinan? Any particular reason?

jman26 - I am taking delivery later this week and have been in contact with Dinan also. The word I am getting is the same. They hope to have it out by year end.

r33 - I am rather new to the X5 forum. Now that you all have been so helpful with the ordering process it is time to start thinking about some upgrades. I will read through the thread also. But could you tell me a little more about BMS. Time and difficulty to install on the 50i? It seems like I read it is tricky to get installed.

On the 50i, you only can do BMS Stage 1.
Installation wise, 1 minute of your life.
It is very easy, on the scale 1 to 10, I put 0.5.
Gain wise, it is advertised up to 60whp on stock car. With higher settings and mods, I've heard and read crazy things about it, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you really know what you are doing.
3 forums member that I can remember using it. bluelodge, @cy07, and @X5jouster. My apology if I forget the others.

BMS uses the MAF sensors so literally it takes 1 minute. It's a very easy install. Trust me and go this route. Look at @bluelodge400's install: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1033033.

the BMS for the 50i is unbelievable for what it does...being how easy it really is to install and what you can gain.absolutely flawless thus far and i have put a beating on the car... i have the gthaus exhaust ordered. this is straight catback with high flow muffler. also increase exhuast diameter. this should allow a ton more flow, and speaking with BMS, once installed, they stated i should increase the levels of the tune by adjustuing the dials...and i will be blown away by what this vehicle is capable of

I increased the levels up by one notch(From the 12 o'clock position to the 1:00o'clock position). It increased the performance just a little bit but nothing substantial.

I have logged close to 4000miles since installing the BMS State 1 and I have not had any problems to date.

once i receive the exhaust, i will retain factory settings on the tune to see if at a constant state of engine characteristics and tuning if i can pick up performance with the exhaust. im assuming the tune will allow me to pull the most potential from the exhaust, but im wondering if i had no tune, how much i could pick up vs having a tune.

I just thought of something: should you wait until after the break-in period to install BMS or is it ok to do it whenever?

I recommend you wait just so your engine gets to it's proper potential and is conditioned enough. If you start messing around with it too early before it has a chance to properly break in, you might have issues. That's just my two cents since I own my car. Some will disagree...but it's always better to be safe than sorry if you own your vehicle and want the engine to last a long time.

As @opasha mentioned, it us up to each individual. I personally wouldn't wait.
Because I believe the new manufacturing process doesn't require a break-in.

Sort of like people who still do oil changes every 3K miles... I could understand if it were traditional oil versus the synthetic oil used today

Of course, if you purchase and plan to keep the car for at least 5 years. Do the break-in, better be safe than sorry.

Any experience with BMS Stage 1 for 35? I also have a new M235 and believe its the same module so I might try it on both. Honestly the M235 drivetrain is much much better calibrated and sporty that my new X5 Msport 35. Hoping the Stage 1 will get it close in feel to that.

Its a purchase, but I never know how long I'll keep one. I've gone as short as 1y and as long as 10y. The usual plan for these 'rolling balls of electronics' is 3y. I was going to keep my latest X6 longer because I loved it , but that didn't work out so well.

Haha, that's the reason I lease now. I can't stand having the same car over 2-3 years. Of course unless it is a classic.
It is a love hate relationship with new cars.
