Drivetrain Malfunction after new spark plugs and ignition coils

Hello, So about two months ago my car got a drivetrain malfunction while i was driving on the highway and turned out i had misfires on a few cylinders and my crankcase ventilation hose was cracked. The car stuttered and shook really bad. We replaced all 8 plugs with NGK Laser Iridium sold by BMS and OEM ignition coils. The drivetrain malfunction cleared and the car was fine.

Fast forward to this past weekend, I was at a red light and went WOT and the car threw a Drivetrain Malfunction again. I had DSC off and for some reason my car didn't upshift on it's own so it redlined and maybe even went past and hung there a second until i changed gear. So yesterday we tried swapping the mass airflow sensors to see if the banks the cylinders were misfiring on would change. It wasn't the MAF. We're gonna do the fuel injectors next but wanted to see if anyone here had any suggestions for what else could be causing this. car is a 2014 X5 50i with 63k miles and a dinan piggyback tune. I do drive it pretty hard and haven't had a lot of issues with oil consumption. In the two years I've owned the car I only had to top the oil off once.

Did you gap it correctly; the NGK don't come pre-gapped at all.

My first change of spark plugs done by the dealer were not gapped correctly so I had a ton of WOT problems (I have RaceChip); after change to NGK and gapping the correctly, so far everything is working perfectly.

I don't know if they are gapped correctly, I would assume they are but you never know. I'll have my cousins shop double check the spark plugs and make sure they're gapped correctly along with some other maintenance work. It went into BMW just today and got the fuel injectors replaced but it's still misfiring.

i'd redo the plugs. check to make sure all coil connectors are tight first.

anyone know what the NGK plugs should be gapped at? 0.62mm?

also something else i wanted to mention. when we would clear the codes and turn the car on, it would turn on fine and the car would drive fine until i hit about 2.5-3k rpm and then start misfiring and throw the error. If i floored it, the error came up almost immediately.

I am running the NGK 5992 / 95770 plugs gapped at 0.022".

I am running a JB4 and that is the recommendation from Burger while using that piggy back. They are a step colder than the OEM Bosch according to Burger.

Are there any cylinder codes present? A particular one? Reason I ask is because my 2014 just did this and I replaced with NGKs and brand new coils. Cylinder 5 kept coming up in the codes and shutting off that particular one out of nowhere.

Fast forward a month later and the car is getting a new long block from BMW. They changed injectors under the extended warranty but where still getting the code. Then they did a compression check and saw it had scoring in there and was lost compression. I don't drive mine hard at all.

check tubings

Check the intakes, turbo tubings and charge pipe for leaks .
When the car and engine shakes during misfires those tubings can come loose.

Another update - we took off the Dinan tune on the car and pulled out the NGK plugs. We used new OEM plugs, turned the car on and it's still misfiring. The car has just under 64K miles. I'm ready to throw in the towel with this damn car and I think it's safe to say this is probably going to be my last BMW.

What codes are you getting? I had several codes for cylinder 5. One for misfire and one for injector switch off.

Sorry if this rains on your parade.

I don't thinks it's reasonable to use an after market tune, drive it hard, then blame BMW for reliability issues. I know others have had no issues, but some do.

You gotta pay to play.

IMHO

Are you pulling codes? Which cylinder misfires? Swap coil with other cylinder to see if problem moves.

This is my 6th BMW in the last 8 years and the 3rd one that's given me nothing but problems. It's a stage 1 tune on a car with 60k miles...and if you know anything about N63's in general you know they're problematic. TU's less but still have issues of their own.

I see there is a lot of history on that engine in stock condition....

That said, companies that put out a beta product for customers to pay to develop, can expect some push back.
