Cracked fog light
Had this happen last week. What's weird is I can't find an impact scar anywhere on the lens. I replaced the halogen bulb with an LED I purchased from Bimmian.
I ordered a replacement OEM fog assembly for about $200 and switched it out. Hope it doesn't happen again. |

I had one shatter on me a few months ago, quick $170...ouch! Most likely a rock...in your case as well.

Super easy...takes 2 mins tops. You basically use a flat head screwdriver, slide it in horizontal, at the top of the housing in between the metal clip and the plastic holder. Rotate 90 degrees to push the tab down, and gently pull the assembly out. Its in the OMM for reference.

I've used this stuff on 4 different cars over the past 10 years. Never had a chip or a scratch, let alone a crack or break. I still have it on my 09 M3 and it is still crystal clear and still looks perfect.

Which side do you need? I have a good used right side. My left (driver's side) caught a rock and I opted to upgrade to the LED fog lights so the right one is available.

The LED fog lights install from behind the bumper so I had to remove the bumper, remove the reinforcement panels that the original halogen lights clipped into. I then used reinforcement parts from a damaged bumper from an X5 that had factory LED's and secured them on. I like the end result but it's not a great item to retrofit. |

He mentioned that he modified the bumper by taking a piece of reinforcement from an LED fog bumper and added it to the halogen fog bumper. I was wondering what he was referring to. I know that you can't just remove the halogen lights and screw the LEDs in because they don't attach the same way, LEDs screw from the rear and the halogens release via a clip from the front. There's a plastic housing or reinforcement behind the light that would need to be removed before you'd be able put the LED light in its place. Before taking my whole bumper apart I was wondering what kind of part this is and how it would need to be modified to allow the LED light to attach, sounds like it may just easily remove and be replaced with the appropriate reinforcement from the other bumper (maybe even something that could be ordered if I can figure out what it is). |

I think this is the piece I'm looking for:
Part Numbers: 5111-7303095 and 5111-7303096 One for each side - this has the proper housing for the LED light, so I'm wondering if this is something that could be ordered separately or if there would be an issue removing the existing piece. Anyone other than bms5 give something like this a shot? |

Hi,
I'm sorry I didn't get back to you a month ago. I was out of the country for a couple of weeks and didn't follow any Bimmer stuff while away. The piece you are showing looks very similar if not exactly what I had to put on my bumper. These pieces are held on by tabs that are part of the bumper cover that protrude through slots in the reinforcement panels and then are melted over to lock them in place. I carefully cut off the melted material with a sharp utility knife. I then used a two part epoxy to glue the reinforcements onto the original bumper cover. I didn't take note of the part numbers stamped on the pieces because they aren't available separately from BMW (at least in North America). |

I can give you the name of the guy who did my headlights and fogs - he might be able to provide some files so you can compare, is it the kick trunk opener you're trying to add?
