BMW controller

I'm just finishing making my own trailer hitch...I do have , i am using the factory BMW trailer light wiring harness but after research BMW does not offer a electric trailer brake controller ( for the f15 ) ... so I have to go after market is there one brand that works with no future problems ( codes ) ? And does anybody have a good way to route the wire from the front to the back in the vehicle,,for the controller?
Thanks

Can't help you on a recommendation for a controller. You might contact Execuhitch, they are the ones most folks use for hitches for the X5.

As far as wire routing. I wired a front/rear camera into my X5 and chose to go along the bottom to avoid interfering with air bags. The door sills pull up easily. The hardest part is getting by the door pillar; here something ridged helps like a metal coat hanger. Work the coat hanger through from the rear once the door sills are pulled up and attach the cable to it, pull back through.

Good luck!

I recently installed the invisihitch (I think it was formally execuhitch) the controller you speak of is installed by snapping into its slot below the fuse panel which is in the right rear of the x5. there is a handle you put your fingers and and it just pulls off.
As to buying a bmw control box Im sure its sold by online aftermarket bmw parts suppliers.

I asked daryl (from invisihitch) what is the 4 prong female plug hanging off the harness? I dont remember if its on the one on the harness near the fuse panel or it came on the harness that invisihitch sent me. but here is his answer:

The pictured connector is BMW's provision for adding a brake controller in the future, should you ever decide you need one.
