Winter is coming!

I know it is still warm in most parts of the US, but I figured it wasn't too early to ask about winter setups for the X5M. I switched to the M from the 50i MSport with 20" wheels. I used the 20's in winter by swapping the summers for Pirelli Scorpions (which I no longer have due to the 21's on the M and the fact they made it through 4 winters and were at the end of their life tread-wise).

Any deals on winter tire/wheel setups at the dealers yet? I'd prefer to drop to 20" wheels in winter if possible and store the 21" summers at the dealer.

You're right, it's not too early. I'd look into this sooner rather than later. I picked up my '16 in December of '15 and a winter set up was no where to be found. Maybe now that the model is out a few years they will have more in stock.

You may also want to consider 19's. I had them on my previous x6m (2014) and the dealership tried and confirmed they would fit the new x6m.

And my 19s wouldn't fit. I first ordered a '16 50i X6 and a set of 19s for winter. I don't remember the style number but they were M wheels. I took delivery in August and was all set for winter. Fast forward a few months. I hated the 50i, test drove the M and traded up in December. I thought I was set, but when I went to switch out the summers for the winters, the 19s wouldn't fit over the calipers.

Soooo, I sweat it out for a few weeks. The winter set up was on backorder. Snow tires for the 20" staggered wheels also weren't available. Even though the roads were dry, those summer tires didn't play nice on cold roads. I was stressing everyday hoping Mother Nature would be nice and hold off on the snow. I wound up getting 2 extra front wheels and going down a tire size to 275s all around. It didn't look pretty as the rear wheels looked a bit tucked in but I did what I had to do for the season.

I did pick up a winter set up last year so the world is right again. I just finished selling two sets of wheels and tires from previous rides and now I have more....

So was that the staggered 20" set then with winters? If so, do you (or anyone) happen to know what the dealer charges for the set normally?

No, not staggered. Square. Tire width is 285 all around. Need to look for the paperwork, I think I paid around $2,200 plus the tire pressure monitors.

I just ordered these: https://www.getbmwparts.com/partloca...catalogid=4462

From what I understand, this is the "factory" winter setup? 285 all around but the front wheels are 10" wide and the rear wheels are 10.5".

Yes, that's the set. Mine are a grey color. And the rears are slightly wider.

Not true. I will post the specs for my rims and tires that I used on the previous x6M. I took them to the dealership this spring when I got my new x6m and they confirmed they would fit. My rims are not BMW rims but also a reputable brand

I paid $3902 with tax last year for the OEM kit - 20", snow, TPMS. Ordered from Circle BMW in NJ.

Thanks - I like the look of the 611M's and the getbmwparts site is cheaper than the quotes others received from the dealer. Only issue is that I'd have to store them, if I pay the up-charge at the dealer they store them for me which is a big deal if you live in the city of Chicago and have a smaller garage.

Can you let me know if they end up being two tone like the picture or solid Orbit Grey?

GetBMWparts is saying it's two tone machined but last year that set was solid Orbit Grey.

I have a set of OEM F85/6 winters with one season (just shy of 3k/miles) on them. Zero curb rash or damage (wheels are flawless). Am parting ways with the F85 (need more room), PM me if interested. I would let them go for $2500.

Called the dealer today about the winter wheel/tire packages - was told BMW will release the pricing and part number for the winter setup for the F85/86's this week for those who may be interested.
