Arrow To Have or not to have 35i vs 50i

well i have 2 days for chose a 50i or 35i full loaded, but i have some questions, does the 35i its to slow? i have the chance to only drive here in mexico 50i, because the only have 50i demos not 35i, so i think i could go for a fully loaded 35i, and buy maybe a PPK, to get more horses, its really that bad?,because i see that everybody here buy a 50i, it just 1.5 second 0-60 mph diference betwen 35 and 50i, can you guys help me telling me how do you feel your 35i, does it feel that much the diference? thanks.

At 60mph that is about 30 meters / 90 ft of difference per second. I won't calculate the curve as you approach 60, but let's say you will be about 40 meters or 120 ft ahead with a 50i.

Not to be overlooked, the '15 30d has a very decent acceleration time (minor improvement over '14).

The 35i is quick for a heavy SUV, quick enough for most people, I would think. The 50i is FAST by any standard, short of super cars I suppose. So it just depends on what you want. I don't think anyone can rightfully call the 35i slow considering how much weight it's moving and the fact that it is after all, an SUV, not a sport sedan.

I would say that most in Canada & USA buy 35i as compared to the 50i. Unsure why Mexico it is opposite, perhaps the price of gas or difference in capital cost.
Very few have on this forum from Can/US, have complained that they bought the wrong version. I assume that those who choose v6 or diesel is that mileage and cost more important to them than having a V8. I guess it depends what you priorities are.

@OuKEnFoLdMX, either way is fine. As @barcelona said, it is just depends on your priority, MPG or 0-60 time.
For 1.5 seconds faster, you are down about half of the MPG.

Based on my personal observation, for every 4-5 35i/35d, I see 1 50i in bay area. And interestingly I have seen many X5 without any trim!

35i is plenty quick but 50i is a completely different beast in power. You definitely don't "need" the much power, but it's there when you "want" it.

R33, I am not sure that's accurate, I couldn't get more than 19mpg on 35i lol. I am sure I can at least obtain 15 on 50i.

@cy07, seriously? I've been getting 16mpg on mine. Few guys that showed up on the meet with 5.0 told me they have been getting 8mpg.

If you couldn't get more than 19mpg on a 35i you were either driving mostly city or driving with a lead foot or both. With those sam deriving patterns, you'd be hard pressed to get even 14 in a 50i.

I had a 550 before I bought my 35i X5.

I miss the ridiculous power, and just being able to blow almost everything else on the road away at will, but I don't miss the way it chewed through gas.

I don't drive so many miles that the difference in mileage is a big factor financially, but by the time I turned in the 550, I was pretty sick of having to stop for gas every 250 to 320 miles. One of the best parts of the experience of picking up my X5 was firing it up and having the dashboard show range of 480 miles to empty.

In addition to better mileage, the 35i is absolutely fast enough for 99% of my driving, and because of the reduced weight, is better balanced and handles better than the V8. I'd buy another 35i in a heartbeat even if it was the same price as he 50i.

I drive mostly city street. And I did try Eco mode, but heck, can't stand of having a nice car but driving like a grandma. So, I left it at comfort most of the time and punching it.

That's what I get as well- mostly between 14-15 mpg (mostly street driving).

Mostly Comfort Mode or Sport Mode? That's a lot of loss considering you have the 3.5i, Ben. Maybe the tuner chip? More fuel for those better gear shifts?

The 35i is pretty quick when you consider the size of the car.
It all comes down to personal preference but if you are all low fuel consumption I think you'd be better off with a 35i, but if you prefer power and that V8 roar get the 50i. It all comes down to your use of the car.
I got a 50i and I the power on that car is just amazing. No matter how strong a 6 cyl is it will never give the satisfaction of a V8. I feel confident that it would get me out of trouble anytime of any day, plus it is a strong competitor to all those other high powered SUV's.
All the best.

I usually got 14-15 on my 35i. With my driving habits, I'm convinced I'd get <10 in a 50i.

You mean everyone doesn't do that?? What a shame. How can other people have the pleasure of viewing your stylin' X5 if you're in the back?

well thanks for your comment, and yes a will go for the 35i, m sport, i know that with 4k diference i can get a 50i, semi equiped, that's my problem, but i think that is better balanced and handles better than the V8, and i am 36 year old, my years of drive 240-260 k/h on my bmw 135 have past, and now with a son and a wife i think that 35i will be the perfect suv for us, not the moster of 50i, hope i do not regret.

can some one can tell me the diference of gas consumation betwen this 2 but in kilometer because a dont understand mpg metric,

thank again.

actually i prefer mpg, my problem i forget thats this is a suv, not a sport car, and this is a familly truck not a single young men, my problem its that when a drive the 50i, i remember the older days and the adrenaline. and make me doubt if 35i or 50i.

you're right i came from a bmw 328 series sport line, and i was very happy, i just need to feel maybe more power, and i think the x5 35i, will give me this.

opasha i see you have the 50i, non msport, do you need the msport suspension? i figure that your suspension its allways in comfort mode? right?

because think on trigger on the last minute on the 50i, i will get the excellence not the m sport, and this one do not have the stock msport suspension,

Maybe 2 days too short to try 35i. Test drive if you can.

If I read you correctly only $4k difference, if so that is much better than Canada $13k. I think you may mean full optioned V6 compared to less optioned v8. Not sure about the 35i is better balanced and has better handling. 36 years, you are still a young man. I know its hard but seems like you are suited to 35i, good choice.

Today neighbour came back from 2 month holidays, she took the Cayenne Turbo GTS out, what a wonderful sound.

All comments posted are valid, but I really Hamad Nasser nailed it.
