Post your F15 Winter Wheel set up

I know it's a bit early considering how few even have their F15's yet, but with limited options on Tire Rack so far, thought I'd start a thread for people to post their winter set-ups, where they got (or will get) them, pics, prices, etc...

So far, I'm not happy with Tire Rack's 18 nor 19" options and I'm going to check on what BMW has for winter sets (website shows only style 446, the no-line wheels) for a little over $2500 with Michelin's. Seems like a decent choice for a few months a year (usually keep them on for about 4 here), but I'd still like something better looking and preferably 19"

Michelin Latitude Alpin LA2 ZP. 255/55R18 109H. Rim Size 8.5x18.

I know some have already put winters on their stock wheels and will upgrade to bigger wheels for summer... Anyone buy a winter set yet or have plans to?

I have plans to. Glad you started this thread. I'm wanting 19" run-flat excellent winter/snow tires. Hope to get some suggestions here.

Those are the x-line wheels, I was thinking about those too. Didn't see them on the site when I looked for some reason. $3200 for 19" BMW wheels isn't bad at all. I'm assuming I can get a discount through my CA for buying the car as well.

Chris- you're in NYC? I've religeously driven on snow tires in all of my previous BMWs... but they've almost always been either light-weight or RWD. Given that this thing is 6,000lbs... what's the verdict on needing winter tires on reasonably well travelled roads?

I'm selling these MSport 19" wheels with TPMS and Michelins they came with if anyone is interested...

They're obviously brand new and no longer on vehicle. Will ship.

After having dedicated winter rims on the last 3 cars, I plan to go from summer to all season this time. While winter tires are great in the snow it just doesn't snow enough (in nj) in my opinion to warrant winter tires and sacrifice dry handling 90% of the time. Given I don't commute far or live in a hilly area. Last winter there was a warmer day and had to slam the brakes... Mush... Took 3 days to come to a stop. Winter rubber is so soft if it's not cold enough. Given there is a flip side...

I plan on doing the Conti DWS on the stock 20 m sport wheels. We know wide tires for snow is a no no but many other X5 (e70) owners commented on how surprisingly good the contis were considering they are an all season, WWide tire.

I stuck with all seasons on my last couple SUV's for the winter (on an E70 I put 18" A/S in place of 20's, and an ML350 I kept standard 19" A/S all year), until our current X3. Last year in both heavy and light snow, the all seasons were like cinder blocks, horrible trying to stop at very low speeds. I ordered snows the next day. To me, it's about the rubber composition not just the extra tread. The all-seasons would move ok but not great at stopping. They were fine the first year but I don't think we really were out much with it in the snow. Last winter was our second year on those tires, so probably harder than the first.

Most likely going to put snows on the X5 soon after it comes.

I am picking up my new X5 next Friday. Instead of custom ordering I found one that matches exactly what I want....except it has 19" all season set up.

My goal is to put 19" Pirelli ice and snow tires on the 19" rims for the winter

Question 1 is how can I sell my brand new 19" all season tires

Question 2 is what is the best place to get the 20" bmw rims that would come on the luxury line from the factory? I don't need them until April or so

Congrats on the new x5

Ask your dealership to swap them prior to you driving on them, then see if they will buy them at a discounted rate as they are brand new. My dealership just bought both my X5 and my 750i tires. Parts cannot sell them as new but the used car department will use them on their used inventory that needs new tires.

Your BMW dealership can order your 20 inch x-line rims and rubber as well. I would consider the 21 inch for an extra cost as it will look much better .

Do you guys get run flats for your winter rubber ? I am looking at tire rack and I see the pirelli ice and snow that everyone is talking about and it does not seem they are run flats? thoughts?

PS the price on TR IS 247 PER TIRE, MY dealer quoted me $371 per tire for the pirelli Ice and Snow!!

I was tempted to go non run flat for winter but unless you got the space saver spare, you would then have no spare and no run flats, aka no way home lol. So I'll get RF snows. Tire rack has good year performance winter RF's for I think around $280 each (give or take) for 19's. I think 18's are around the same price and if you're doing 18's, there are Blizzak run flats under $300 each too.

Not planning to, just mentioning options on tire rack. I'll either put 19's or use the m sport 19's for winter and get a set of 20's for summer. Haven't decided.

Obviously the 20's would look better but it's my wife's car (could be on 16's for all she'd care or notice lol) and I'm a bit over bending rims on NY potholes. May just get a set of the x-line 19's for winter, BMW cold weather package. Didn't like the tire rack options so far and the after market stuff seems to bend easier than anything.

Currently have Conti DWS on E70 with 20" M-Sport and what a difference it made. I ordered it with Space Saver Spare and put a can of Fix-A-Flat in the trunk just in case. I just ordered wife a new F15 50i with 20" M-Sport yesterday and doing the same thing again. The Conti's rock in summer & winter. Also improve the ride and last longer than RFT.

Just ordered Nokian Hakkaplaita R2, 255-50-19 for the new X5. I am removing the all seasons that came standard and having these placed on the 19" rims from the factory.

Still need to find some 20" rims and summer tires by April :-)
