new x6 50i or 2012 ml63
hi guys
I'm kinda torn between decisions here so looking for some feedback. after owning 2 m3's e92 and e93, the wife is having a baby so need to get something bigger. I've narrowed it down to 2 options. in Australia with the ridiculous prices, with my fleet discounts I'm able to get an x6 50i m sport for $135 new. I'm also very tempted by a used 2012 ml63 with performance pack for $140k. performance wise I love the ml, but technology wise it feels outdated compared to the new x6. not to mention the aggressive look of the amg which I also really like. has anyone had experience with the both? what would you prefer and why? |

However, I've had friends with that car, and it inhales fuel beyond any sane level - seriously just MASSIVE amounts. It proved spendy to run here in the US, where fuel is basically free. If you're a tech guy get the BMW. The ML's technology is VERY dated in comparison. I've had many vehicles with the 50i engine, and it's a blast to drive. Technology top notch too. If you can, get the DHP package - it makes a HUGE difference in the handling, which is already superior to the ML IMHO, and blows it away with the DHP pack added. Ultimately, get whatever floats your boat - but if it were me, my money would be on the BMW |

The x6 if you imply logic in the decision, the ML63 if you decide whit the heart.

I guess you shouldn't be surprised that most of the people here would go for the BMW. I have a friend with the 63 and the consumption is terrible. I'd go for the bimmer and you can always tune it up a little bit, though i doubt that the performance is going to disappoint you
Plus, there s nothing like the smell of a new car. |

The AMG has a much bigger engine (5.5 vs 4.4 for the bmw) and hence is thursty for fuel. My partner has GL63 and I have F15 50i with DHP. The 0-60 times are almost equal, but the ML is probably a tad lighter than the GL. Imho, the F15 has better ride quality and handling and the AMG has much more intoxicating soundtrack.

How much warranty is left on the 2012 ML63 should also be factored into the equation. Fixing anything with the star on it isn't cheap especially if its a AMG.
As much as i like how the ML looks in AMG form i would go with a brand new full warrantied X6 here. Alan

My brother's ML63 is great, but the interior is dated. My X5 50i is faster than his ML63 now. I'm sure the performance pack will help; however, believe it or not, the Designo interior is not as comfortable as the BMW Dakota leather. The ride in my car feels nicer, which shocked me. I thought the ML was going to blow away my F15 50i, but now with a tune chip, it's easily faster than his. I'd pick the X6 50i with DHP and get a tune chip for cheap ($500-600).
