Issue with camera system

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I got my f15 coded for euro high beam assist and when using it am getting the following:

Malfunction - camera visibility reduced, clean camera

I cleaned the camera twice and still getting this. Any ideas on what it could be? The high beam assist shuts off when this errors out. It sometimes works for about 5 minutes.

Have you cleaned both the front and the rear cameras? Perhaps its the rear camera that is throwing the code.

Rear camera? where's that?

I thought the KAFAS camera behind the mirror handled the HBA, or a dedicated HBA camera if you didn't have other items requiring KAFAS. That said don't all X5's now get the driver assist as standard so you'll have KAFAS anyway.

The rear camera is on the trunk, on the lip just above the rear license plate.

When it says "Camera," it could means one, two, or all the cameras on the car. You are connecting the two events because the coding was the lasting you did, but I think this is a completely separate issues. I think your headlights are working fine. And, simply, one or some of your cameras are just dirty.

Oh that rear camera, its not involved in the HBA is it as the rear view camera isn't a standard item in the UK.

I cleaned both cameras. Is there a camera on the windshield that high Beam feature uses? Perhaps it's that?

The HBA uses the sensor camera that's mounted in the rear view mirror console. From the outside of the vehicle, clean the windshield in the top center where the the rear view mirror console is located.

In my opinion it sounds like the vehicle might not have been coded properly. The camera has a pretty high degree of tolerance for dirt so unless your windshield is covered in mud, it likely can see just fine.

With ESYS, did you CLEAR ALL DTCs first using External Applications > External Application > Transmitter > Scrolling to the very last option CLEAR ALL DTCs?

I'll make sure tomorrow to do that. What will that accomplish? It's not a constant error unless you use it.

What this does is clear all computer/service errors from the vehicle so they do not pop up again if everything is functioning correctly. If this does not work, then something bigger is occurring in your vehicle, which would require you to get it serviced by BMW.
