Grimlins running amok

I took my X5 to the dealer a couple of days ago. They completed warranty work:

* replaced the steering column
* looked into adaptive headlight malfunction and replaced a component
* updated the software per adapter headlight bulletin that was out

I picked up the car this morning and all seemed normal. I just lost all my coding options because of the software update. When I got home, I updated the coding with Carly. Disabled seatbelt warnings, enabled video in motion and a few other minor changes. Everything seemed good and no problems. I finish up and go inside. Several hours later I need to run to the store and started the vehicle and all hell broke loose. I restore all coding backups and it changed fixed nothing:

* windshield wipers stuck on
* pedestrian detection malfunction
* cruise control malfunction
* collision warning malfunction
* blinkers don’t work
* all buttons on steering wheel do not work

What is the likelihood this is caused by a bad code? Everything was put back to defaults and even disconnected the battery. I ended up returning to the dealer so they have it now. I ran diagnostics and it found “interface ssl / fem / bdc (operating steering column switch, 0x1ee): signal invalid.”

Has nothing to do with the coding. Something wrong with a new steering column, may be bad contact.

Thanks, that was my guess based on that code. However, I wasn’t certain.

Sometimes a weak battery can do weird things.

It appears this might be a corrupt / bad FDL module. Dealer is replacing to see if that resolves the problem.

Keep us posted. Took my car in and dealer updated software and all my coding was gone. Was planning on redoing it this weekend but wondering if I should hold off now. I also use Carly.

I was told now they are replacing some other module. They didn’t identify which one. If that resolves the issue, it should be noted on the service paperwork or I will ask. This is quiet weird.

The BDC module had to be replaced. Apparently a blown internal fuse.

What issue did you have with the adaptive headlights?

They changed a part. Cannot remember and don’t have the paperwork.
