F15 50i 0-60mph in 4.3 secs

Check out the Car and Driver review of the 2014 X5 50i. Not too flattering on the steering feel or tires used, but performance figures are fast!

"Hustling to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and through the quarter mile in 12.8 seconds at 109 mph is a worthy feat when there’s 5306 pounds of vehicle to lug around."

I wonder if the M-Sport version would be any quicker with launch control?

Everywhere else says 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. Even other car and driver articles. Am I missing something here? Was it a misprint? Granted it does feel fast as hell when you do launch control in sport mode!

Maybe someone should tell them that the optional Active steering is not electric, its a Hydraulic system unlike the regular X5 steering.

The 4.9 seconds is what BMW officially represents it will do. They are always conservative in their numbers. Most car mags and critics don't test the performance figures of the car because they do not have the facilities, equipment or skill set to complete the task, hence, them just putting down what BMW states.

I agree.. also unless every condition for 0-60 testing is identical the car will vary in speeds...

Say what??? You sure about that? Thought the entire steering system was electric with/without the active steering system

There's no button or anything. The computer automatically does it I believe when you put your car into sport/sport + mode. They talked about it the thread below, but it's in the owner's manual in detail supposedly.

Dang, all of that effort for the launch control setting? Seems rather tedious.

I believe it is a standard option in the Msport line. Night and day difference then just mashing the gas in sport mode. My kids call it "turbo power"

This just written by Car and Driver review of ne X6 but referring to F15 50i

"(We just tested an X5 xDrive50i that posted a 4.3-second 0-to-60 time, so the latter figure is probably conservative.

Smile Mine did 0 to 60 best 5.1 sec and it is a F15 50i.

I just downloaded this app on my android to measure the sav 0 to 60 and 0 to 100 timings. App is "Drag timer". 0 to 60 was really varying every time. There are many factors to your timings like:
1) The wind direction
2) The road like straight road or does it have a curve or slight uphill or so
3) Octane level of gas
4) Type of tires and wheel size
5) Weight of the car like an included 3rd row to add on
6) Sea level
7) Mode of the car like comfort or sports plus or manual or automatic
8) The app or device that times the speed.

The first time i timed my X5 50i F15 was on a road with slight uphill and I got 7.59 sec for 0 to 60. Puzzled I was. Next time I did it was on a road with slight curve and got 6.65 sec when I realized what was going on.
I went on a flat straight road with not much wind and I got 5.1 with launch control. WHAT!
I immediately stop on the same road and continued to do the same and got 5.73 sec. BMW says it is 4.7 and some other sites have reported 4.5. BMW X5M is 4 sec for 0 to 60. I did not find launch control amusing at all just that it feels as if the front tires / suspension lift up a little and yes maybe a little more drama to it but nothing that pushes the adrenalin.
Not to forget the Turbo lag and BMW limits the top speed and for this F15 50i it is 132 mph.

Maybe I should buy a speed testing device rather than the app. Any suggestions on the device to buy?
