glad you went with this set up considering our winters are longer then summers and the car looks just as good. we also had plenty of snow in Toronto and it performed very well with my toyo observe gsi. At the end of the day they are winter tires!

Does anyone have experience with a 20" setup using the Toyo Observe gsi and the Pirelli Ice and Snow? I love my Ice and Snows. Great wet and dry traction, good steering response and very quiet for snows. However, they are run flats and I'd like to go with a go flat when I replace them.

Thanks! mine is 2016 X5 m sport come with 20" 469M and Prelli summer tires. I just put the order last night on tire rack to 275/315 staggered ice and snow tires. Supposed to come by 12/14 and will have them mounted.

x4 tires price: $1570 with shipping.

Do I need to buy another set of TPMS ? I believed that these sensors come with my 469M wheel and I should be able to re-use them for winter tires.

This is my first BMW, I have two complete sets of rims and tires, so I don't dis-mount and mount. I think you should be able to swap the TPMS.
Can any one else answer that question?

No problems wrt the TPMS. You're just swapping tires anyway. Even if you were getting new wheels, moving the sensors to a diff set would pose no issues.

Just purchase a second set of TPMS sensors for the second set of wheels. You dont want to have to dismount and mount just to swap TPMS sensors. I got mine from Discount tire for about $45 each and they work perfectly.

This. Swapping TPMS sensors defeats the purpose of having an entire separate set of winter wheels since you would still have to take them to a tire shop to swap them. Tire Rack also has these: https://www.tirerack.com/tpms/detail...oModClar=xLine

The 433MHz frequency is what we need. After mounting the wheels with the new sensors, set the tires to the appropriate PSI, go into the settings menu, and reset the TPMS and you're good. On mine, I forgot to do that last part. The vehicle still recognized the sensors, but it still gave a warning "!" triangle because it wasn't able to read the PSI.

Winter tires mounted yesterday and drove a a lot in snow today. Pretty much confidence on start, stop/brake, you still get slide when turned with a high speed however it will grip finally.

Although you're with winter tires but you are not unbeatable, drove with caution and avoid other car hit yours and keep under the safe speed.

Nice. As I always say, having the right tools for the job makes all the difference. Tell that to the X3 that is nose-first into the ditch by my house due to the snow yesterday. Should've taken a pic...

ps looks like you did a little practicing with the new shoes... I see lots of donut marks.

About a foot of snow this week and 5" last night.
OEM 469 running scorpion ice and snow staggered. Good forward traction but have to say the rear of this car loves to kick out. Tires grab quickly but I think the lateral traction could be better. Maybe this is where the Nokians excel.

Question? I've never driven in winter tires, so, what is the difference between the experience of giving the x5 gas at a stop to turn. will it glide and slide or just crawl out?

If you put too much gas the car will try to slide one side so you need to put your foot off and steer back to control.

We had about 4 inches of snow and ice the past few days. I'm running 19" Michelin latitude all seasons. I really only feel uncomfortable when I'm being reckless and gunning the engine to see what she will do. but that's in a closed lot away from danger of others.

On the road, as long as I maintain caution. I've been fine. Just need to remember to stop way before the stop sign.

^^^ Today a car makes a left in front on me and another car. Road had say 2inches of snow. If I had all season it would have been close, having Winters I still had to brake firmly. Of course I honked. I bet that the other driver thought that I was the crazy one!

Out early Today, same snow conditions. OEM 491 Pirelli I&S (x6 with 300km), agreed rear slides when making a turn. I have 18" Nokians Hakkapelitta om X3, I feel a lot more sure footed on these. Of course, not a direct comparison 18" versus 20". Hope the I&S, make up for it in the wet, and slushy conditions. Stinkyxy, you are spot on!

I think this is what they mean by saying the 315's are to wide for winter tyres that's why they slide around corners. So far I'm impressed with the Ice & Snows but not tested in the snow, So it's something to look forward too!
