Take your time and research different rims and how they look, pick one you like. The only tip I can give is don't go for 20 inch rims as they are not enough for x5. IMHO it's either 21 or 22 inch rims for x5 that look perfect

I would argue that the 20-inch and 21-inch are the sweet spot and the 22-inch are a bit too much, it starts looking like a big GTI.

I guess BMW hit the sweet spot with it's 21 inch rims I agree 20 and 21 is a sweet spot and in addition 20 inches provide best tire selection for relatively cheap. it's just often when I look at my 20 wheels I wonder why I didn't go with a bit bigger rims. Rim design can also affect visually I guess, but I personally really like those 612M 21 rims

+1

When I first purchased my X5 I was looking for a set of 599M wheels as an upgrade to the 469M wheels that it came with. Over the course of the next few weeks I noticed several X5s with 612M in the wild and they really started to grow on me. I liked the way they looked at various angles from my perspective at a traffic signal, and the way they looked as they rolled into motion. I really liked the size of the wheel and tire relative to the body of the X5.

I started researching them and discovered that there were two different wheels that looked very similar, the 611M and the 612M, up until that moment I had assumed they were both the same wheel (612M). The more I studied the subtle differences between the two of them, the more I started to fall in love with the 611M. Despite the 611M being 20-inch compared to the 612M 21-inch, it is difficult for the untrained eye to tell them apart at first.

So my point is that you are absolutely right, the wheel design does affect it visually. Enough that I initially mistook a 20-inch wheel for a 21-inch wheel.

^Looks awesome. I love it except the blacked out taillights, but just IMO. Do you have a side shot so we can better see the drop?

I agree, looks good but the blacked out taillights and license plate are too much, thought that trend ended in the 90's.

I wanted to do something a little different with the tail lights. Considering reverting to OEM.

Thanks for the comments. FYI license plate is not blacked out... I used marker to mask plate number.

Nice car JRock! Personally, I am not a big fan of taillight blackout either, but tastes should be different, otherwise we'd all drive the same car!

And welcome to another Floridian to the community!

Honestly, the pic doesn't do it fair justice. Look much better in person.

I'm in West Palm area.

Agreed.

It all boils down to perception and personal preference.

Yeah, I know what you mean. There are times when the 20s look small, but other times when they look just right. The angle and lighting have a big effect on that perception.

I'd love to see the 612s on an M sport in the flesh (in satin or gloss black). I wouldn't do a blind purchase because I can imagine that the 612s on an X5M could exude a different vibe from the same wheels on an X5 M sport. X5M's slightly more muscular build fits well with the 612s; not sure if the M sport could equally look well until seen with the naked eyes.

Besides the side air vent insert, the X5M and M-Sport look the same from the side. If you like the 612M wheels, my vote is to go for it!
