Why can't I order Running Boards with the M sport trim?

I had it on my order list, and the CA told me it is not possible to get it with the M sport line

can someone explain to me why this is?

Sure: BMW decided the running boards don't fit the design of the M sports package. And they're right.

I think with the M-sport aesthetic the focus is more on the X5 being a taller sport sedan and not the truck that it can be. So they design the whole trim packaging around that idea. Given that there is an xLine my guess is BMW feels like they have the more truck oriented buyer covered.

For what it's worth, I had the running boards on my 2009 X5 but came to wish I had not. For one, the car really isn't high enough off the ground to require them for access in and out. Secondly, they get dirty easily (muddy and wet in wet weather), and that stuff all too often rubs off on your pants leg as you are getting in and out of the car. Three, they just don't look like they belong on the car.

As always, YMMV, but I will not be including them when I put my order in this time.

For E70: Maybe the wider wheel well flares.

Also: For F15 no mud flaps are available probably for same reason. Consistent with F25.

aren't the side skirts on the m sport wider than on the x-line or lux? If so, I wouldn't think running boards would even fit.

that said, phantomac2 hit it on the head. They just wouldn't look right with the M sport.
