Either way, he lives in VT, not sure I would trust 20's up there in the winter. |

I agree with you on side wall and sizes
However, I would hate driving such heavy SUV on skinny tires when it's not snowing Dry/wet/cornering performance would suffer greatly And for them, in VT, it's longer discomfort |

I drove the dunlop runflats in 275-315 set up in a foot of snow 60 miles each way to work for a while. Not that great but if that works the dws will be fine in those sizes.

I have a 2016 X5 xdrive3.5 with the mpkg. I also modified the truck and added an m performance exhaust, brakes, power kit and got the 21" wheels. The factory build came with the 19" with all seasons. I used the all seasons in last years winter (live in NJ) and about to the same this year. I agree the lower sidewall helps spring thru fall with the extra handling and in the winter months the extra sidewall helps with the snow and potholes. I plan on changing the tires to winter tires once the all seasons are ready to be changed out. I definitely recommend having a second set if you got the 20" and need more traction during the winter months.

The profile on the 20" wheel is tall enough you'll be fine with almost any bad roads including standard-height curbs, small pot holes, snow, dirt, pebbles, debris. It's not very good for sand, but nor are the 19" wheels.
I see no reason to get the 19" wheels unless you're going over budget. Speaking of budget, I don't think BMW is overcharging for any of their wheels. If you want to get upgraded alloys on a Honda Accord, they charge like $2000.

In NYC, we get a few snow days a year. I would never waste money on snow tires. All season tires are made for this type of climate. I did it on my M3 and had no issues in freezing rain in Boston to 100 degree summer days in Miami and everything in between.
If there's 2 feet of snow, I have no interest in being on the road and quite honestly, the people clearing the streets prefer it that way also. |

If you don't travel past 50-60 miles radius of NYC, you don't need snow tires if you use AllSeason
The snow doesn't get here till mid to end of January and maybe one significant storm in January or February Christ it's going to be first week of December and getting into low 60s |

Went from 18" to 20" in our new X5. I love the look, but the steering feels even more disconnected. Plus the 20" contour more to the road, so it feels like you're constantly fighting the road to go straight when driving at low speeds in the city. In the other side, taking curves at much faster speeds while driving in the country roads and the tyres stick great. Overall, we are looking at getting 19", with spacers, for better daily driver experience. Let me know if you have any questions...

I would get the 20"wheels
I bought a leftover 2015 and my only need item was the third row seat... agree that the wheel wells are so big that the 19s look silly and wished they came with the 20s. tire rack has a good winter setup for the x5 in 19s. I think I bought the msw type 48s in black with Pirelli winter scorpions. I think we'll worth the money if you opt for the 20s

With all seasons it's not all about snow ... it's more about temperature. I believe it's around -4c that all season will turn into hockey pucks and traction, braking etc... will all suffer.
All seasons are no seasons and you should run summers and winters. Personally I am running 18" winters on mine. They look alright but there no 20" msport rims but I would not want to run fat winter tires were I live or if you get real winters.

At that temperature summer compound tires will probably be like driving on bowling balls. http://www.dunloptires.com/en-US/tir...g-winter-tires |
