Question Drifting?

Might seem like a question on the wrong forum (an SUV forum). But can the X5 drift on dry road?

I have seen videos where people drifted on wet or snow, but was wondering about the dry road.

With all the skill and power, yes, it should be possible. Preferably on the sDrive or RWD.

Drifting is more about the skill of the driver right?

Power slide is a better term since most of the X5's are sold in xDrive set ups.

To answer your question anything is possible. More easier in a 50i with its loads of torque with all driving aids shut off at a high rate of speed.

AWD drive should be okay. I see people drift in their WRX cars all the time.

Most of them who drift AWD have the front axle disconnected.

I took delivery of my X5 at the performance center. I asked the instructor if the X5 would roll or slide if pushed hard in a corner. He said no - so I tried it on the track. I drove fast into a tight turn and pedal to the metal - 4 wheel drift! Handles like a sports sedan. That X5 was a 5.0 x-drive with standard all season tires on 19" wheels

from experience in the 50i mposrt....it goes where you want it too...straight or sideways.

it will absolutely lose traction if the driver is equipped to respond and coerce it. i have thrown gravel in many 90 and 180 degree turns

I may be wrong but I don't think this is true..

According to this article http://www.bmwblog.com/2014/10/30/te...x5-m-bmw-x6-m/

Quote:
BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive and Dynamic Performance Control play a key role in the outstanding dynamics of the new BMW X5 M and new BMW X6 M. The xDrive system employs an electronically controlled multiplate clutch to allow fully variable distribution of drive between the front and rear axles – from 100 per cent at the rear to up to 100 per cent at the front. This ensures the best possible traction in all road conditions. In the interests of greater agility, xDrive brings a rear-biased basic set-up to the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M.
