Safari Style Luggage Roof Rack Box

Does anyone have or has anyone used a safari style luggage rack on their F15 X5? I've seen a video and a few pictures on the older models, but not a lot of clear ones on ours.

Owner pictures of OEM BMW luggage rack/basket Part# 82-12-0-442-358 also welcome Thanks!

haha, you're on your own there buddy...most X5 drivers pay up for the cargo box. What are you carrying up there anyways?

I can see that haha. Trying to get max people and their luggage from point A to point B and will probably take it off, but just wanted to see how it looked. Though I guess not :/

I believe THULE makes a rooftop safari style rack that can attach to your OEM roofrails. Going off memory, it's not huge, but I'm comparing it to the racks that I have on my Defender or LR3.

Not sure how well the BMW cargo cage will work, but I've got the OEM BMW base system and it works very well with the Yakima Load Warrior I had on previous vehicles (CRV, MDX). I've also got a Yakima Cargo bag to hold stuff in it. It generally gets used at Xmas time, over the hills and through the woods to Grandma's house we go Holds 2 suitcases, several presents, and multiple coats and what not. All in will eat up about 2-5 mpg in mileage when in use. Easy on - Easy off

Thanks zinengineer! That's exactly what I was hoping to see and read. Does not look bad at all either!

One more question. Can you get in and out of your garage with the cage on?

cage yes (just barely), with the bag, no way. The picture in the driveway is right after I loaded it before we hit the road. I don't really like loading it in the driveway (advertise to the universe that we're headed out of town), but really have no choice.
