Key Fob Battery

My battery in the Key Fob never lasts more than two weeks.

I only got the car in Feb, and I have already replaced the battery 3 times. Each time I bought the battery from a different store, just to make sure is wasn't a bad batch of batteries or something. My car came with only one key (Bought used), so I can't experiment with a different fob.

Is this a known issue? I searched and couldn't find anything.

sounds like a faulty fob.
i wonder if the previous owner ran it through the laundry!

i'd get another fob regardless, since that's your only one.

Sounds like a faulty key fob, but just to be on the safe side, I'd try maybe one more set of batteries if you can. The batteries for the keyfob is actually the same for our garage remotes and I went through 3 different brand new sets as well with the batteries being discharged right out of the package. Also buy a name brand battery and not one of those no name multipacks.

I replace my batteries twice also, but I also drive a lot. If you say February, doesn't sound right. I got my car 17 months ago.

Good Morning @alphaod Question. Is driving relevant to key fob longevity? I have my car since March 9th 2015 never replaced batteries. I tell even more, my wife's E90 was manufactured in December 2009, she had since March 2010, still uses the same remote and the same battery in it))))

I don't know actually. I had problems with my comfort access so I replaced the battery and voila, no more problems. So I assumed needing new batteries is normal.

But yeah my dad's Mercedes key only recently needed a new battery, and it's after some eight years.

If this is a comfort access key, sounds like a faulty remote to me. This likely will be covered under warranty, so it doesn't hurt to ask.

If not comfort access, IIRC, you need to charge that battery by inserting into slot. BTW, I highly recommend getting a spare key from BMW. If you shop around, a non-comfort access key will only be about $200 and you can program it yourself and will work on comfort access cars for the simple functions of lock/unlock/drive.

Anybody know what part number this battery has or what kind it is? My car is showing that the battery needs replacement...

Didn't want to make a trip to the dealer just for that...

CR2032 Battery. You can pick one up at a grocery store. Just changed one of mine out last week - extremely simple. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=4VH1yklt-LA

Why is your key blue? I have never seen that..

Awesome! Thanks!

I dropped my key once or twice and figured I put a protective cover on it before it looks like my E90 Key 🤪. Made out of really high quality TPU was actually surprised for the little money...
