Sport Auto - New X6M is as fast as the E9x M3 around the Nurburgring

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Sport Auto has a story on the new X5M/X6M and quotes Herbert Bayerl, project leader for the car.

-The new car will "pulverize" the RR Sport's *Ring lap record of 8:14
-The X6M is now at the performance level of the E9x M3
-No special parts needed to set the lap times
-No plans to set a record by BMW. "We'll leave that to you guys" laughs Bayerl...

X6 M at the level of the old M3
How about, for example, with a good 20 kilometer Nürburgring-Nordschleife? In his three and a half years of development phase of the BMW X6 M has there been unwound over 8,000 kilometers. And besides, really fast times has been set according to project manager Herbert Bayerl of the M GmbH.

"We have over the old model made two steps forward. The new BMW X6 M moves on the level of M3 predecessor," says Bayerl. To classify: The 420 PS strong and heavy under 1.7 tonnes M3 E92 type managed in the sport auto Supertest (12/2007) in 8:05 minutes through the Green Hell.

If the new BMW X6 M can really reproduce this lap time, it would better the predecessor about 20 seconds on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (8:24 minutes in the sport auto Supertest 11/2009). But not only that: The new edition of the BMX X6 would also set the record for series-SUV Range Rover Sport SVR easy to crack - even pulverize. "We have been traveling much faster in testing and have the times of Range Rover several times undercut by worlds. We do not need any special add-on parts to go faster," says Bayerl.

A record attempt is not planned by BMW M GmbH yet. "We leave it to you," the project manager says with a smile.

I'm sure lots of X6Ms will be lapping the "ring" on their way to the mall in 8:05. And at least the RRS is an actual SUV. Still not sure what the hell the X6 is.

I don't know how people can hate the X5/X6 M. If you like cars, you have to admire the engineering that goes into them for it to handle the way it does and the way it performs. Period. Forget about the people who buy these things, or how expensive it is, the thought that a SAV/SUV can do what a smaller sedan does is just amazing

Agree 100%. I just don't get why people get so upset when a manufacturer creates a car/SUV like this...they should be happy that a car company wants to produce as many high performance variants as they can. Just means more choices for all enthusiasts. No one says you have to buy it.

Perhaps a low center of gravity does not do that much. Really, this is pretty wild.

Just goes to show, you put enough horsepower on a barn door you can run the N-ring at a really quick rate.
Seriously though, the N-ring is a HP track, in general the more hp the quicker the ring time (or stated more clearly the more hp/lb the quicker the time).

It goes beyond just throwing horsepower in. Sure, it's one factor but then you consider the F10 M5 goes around the Nurburgring in 7:55, the X6M is expected to "pulverize" the Range Rover's 8:14 and weight's almost 800 pounds more than the M5? No, it's not just HP. A lot of work has to go into the chassis for something big like this to move the way it does and it's not just increasing HP.

Thought there was a Top Gear article that stated 7:55. Regardless, that makes the X5/X6M that much more impressive.

This is absurd. Of course a car with a lot of more hp and infinite more torque runs around the track quicker than the E90. What is the hp-torque/kg of both cars? What a retard comparison.

This comment is absurd and clearly shows that you don't have much experience on the track.

I can run two of the same cars back to back, one with double the power of the of the other, while another has a different suspension setup, and they will both lay down equal times. How do you explain this? Both are the same exact weight and even have the same tires. You need to understand that there is A LOT more involved than just power:weight ratio in racing and the dynamics of a car. Don't put down the engineering that quickly, its a slap to the face to those that worked hard to achieve this.

it's not all about the power. the previous generation X6 M had 555 HP and lapped much slower than the previous generation M3. the new X6 M has about 15 HP more and like stated above can lap the ring as fast as the M3.

which means that a lot of work was done to the chassis to achieve that time
