N57 30d / 35d Diesel Engine Tuning Chips Compared (F10, F12, F15, F25, F30 .....

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Data is for N57 on X5 F15, but the chips referenced below work on all N57 engines. Furthermore, the BMW MPPK works on the N47 (25d) engine as well as the N57, which leads me to believe the chips below are identical in hardware for all BMW diesel engines, possibly with different settings. In some cases the manufacturers reference the same part for the 40d as well.

I have compiled this list based on the manufacturer's claimed data. Be mindful that each chip maker tests their own way, results are not verified, and some disclose base, while others disclose peak output.

I was prompted to put this together after seeing a record MPG from a car chipped with Maxchip (result posted here:http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=42) I have a duplicate thread for F15, but thought other diesel owners would be interested in this.

1 May 15 Edits: more chip suppliers added. price corrected in earlier version of table.
10 FEB 15 Edits: added Evox Systems
12 FEB 15 Edits: Added BMW M Performance Power Kit (top line), added Bluespark Automotive, uploaded BMW MPP PDF and catalog link
14 MAR 15 update: Added TDI Tuning of UK to the list.

There are even more. There were many whose websites just had a contact form for additional info and pricing, and I just ignored those. Also, many were in Hungarian, Polish, etc, without pricing info or good results using Google Translate.

I have to find some time, get the addresses, and upload a pdf to make it useful (click-able). Hopefully some time this week.

A friend replaced his Racechip Ultimate on a 335i, which supposedly produces about +60hp. He got a proper ECU tune by mcchipDKR, which strangely enough produces about +60hp as well. He said the car was like night and day. Much faster, and smoother with a proper engine tune. And no more limp mode, and engine check light.

In-box flooded as this post was "featured" on the front page of bimmerpost.

I will try to respond to as many as I can. Noteworthy, thus far:

BR Performance
Company states they are the first to have cracked BMW ECU's (Bosch computers), and that enabled AMS Performance to tune the MCLAREN & the new M3/M4/M5/M6. That is a big claim and worth noting. They provided this link, a thread that was also featured: http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1066353

Other Tuners
I am happy to include your info in the table, but at minimum you have to point me to a website that lists your product, price, and claimed hp/torque results.

A few years back I got my chip at Heinz Belgium but after that there were talks that some of their best moved out and created BR Performance. I've only heard good things about them so far from friends and customers that went there. Definitely going there for my next car now it's not a powerbox anymore! (3 or 4GC if I ever manage to decide between them )

Edit: Maybe it'd be nice to add the country for each tuner? That alone may explain some price variations for us europeans
Oh and perhaps fuel savings in l/100km I can help if you'd like although I've noticed many sites don't even mention it because most people rather use the extra power than the extra savings .

I can vouch for BR performance.
I have been running with a stage3 tune from them in over a year.
And it is by far the best tune I have had on this car with all the mods I have(Wagner FMIC, hybrid turbo, DPF delete)
They know what they are doing!

Please see post #9 which includes a PDF of the screenshot of post #1, in which I have included web addresses for these companies. Locations include BEL, NED, UK, GER, and US. There are numerous other tuners in Hungary and Poland, but I could not see pricing on their websites, and i had a tough time understanding the info using Google translate. Also, many with little detail or requiring a form to be filled out to get a price, which I left alone. One thing for sure....there are a lot of companies who offer diesel tuning chips.

WRT l/100k, I have a good thread here (Real Life MPG) which includes a three way (UK, US, L/100) calculator. But more importantly, the data in the table is interpretative. Some tuners would say "15%" improvement. Others would say "5 mpg", others would quote L/100. I tried to normalize it for the table. Also, some would include efficiency in a different part of their website, and frankly, when it was a challenge to get clear and specific numbers re this particular engine, I left out efficiency numbers. Some tuners also had different chips for eco boost, vs. power. I left those alone as well for this exercise. Hope this helps.

There are remaps available as well as Piggyback ECU options. A few companies in the UK are offering this.

Thank you for the information. I did not forget it, but did not know about it at all.

I visited the webpage but there is nothing for the BMW 3L N57 diesel engine. Can you send me a link for the F15 30d/35d, the main theme of the table above, so I can include it?

Anyone tried this 399bhp 796Nm?

Worried the gearbox is only rated to 700Nm Max.

I think the comparable chip is this one: http://www.bluesparkautomotive.com/d...W-X3-xDrive30d It mentions X3 vs. X5 which is I have done the searches for, but it lists the engine power specs of the X5 30d (aka 35d in the US). Their most powerful chip takes it to 708Nm.

Thank for brining it to my attention. I will add this, as well as the BMW PPK for this engine to the list soon.
