Icing on the cake that we made the right choice. 12.3 on the quarter is ridiculously fast for any respectable sport car, let alone an SUV. I'm amazed that it corners better, accelerates faster, and stops quicker than the lighter Cayenne Turbo S.
I have to take my X5M to the drag strip soon. I'll pair it with RaceChip for before/after run with review as time permits.

Good article! 0-60 time of 3.8 and a 1/4 mile time of 12.3...very Mpressive! I need to take mine to the drag strip!

Dont mean to offend the drag strip folks, but the most stupendous figure listed there is 0.96g on a skid pad.
Holy crap nearly 1g grip in an SUV wow |

That is amazing! I just got back from Spartanburg where I did a one day private M instruction and realize I should have asked to also drive the X5M on the track. I spaced out not thinking of it. I did get to drive the M3/M4/M235 and the i8. Maybe that was why I spaced. Still, would have loved to pushed the X5M around the track a bit.
I was going to hold onto my '12 X5M but now I'm a lot more tempted to upgrade. My dealer has one in stock right now. Maybe friday try to test drive it. BTW, let's not forget the HUGE price differential between an X5M loaded and even a fairly modestly equipped Cayenne Turbo S. The Cayenne has to be at least 50k to 100k more. |

BMW never had problems with posting numbers. I don't doubt what BMW can do with a turbo to a monster engine. Now more than ever, I'm interested how it feels because that's the problem with BMW's of today - the lack of feel.

I have an M4 and love it. My wife is not into cars but wants an X5 with leather like my car.
"Ok sweetie looks like an X5M is what you will need!" But her car will be faster than mine from the line. Wow.

It's a problem with the tech, everything becomes electric and feels more distant, this goes for pretty much all brands imo. But it's an early stage for electric steering, it will improve, as it has. But likely, it will not give the driver the same sensations as the old power steering. But that too wasn't ideal early on. As for the X5M, it's a beast!

Wow what a beast, almost 1 G lateral acceleration?!
I never believed that the X5M outperformed the Cayenne Turbo S, but it does outperform it. Now just fix the steering, BMW, and you got yourself a monster.

Porsche appears to have it well sorted in a lightweight car like the cayman/bolster which gets fantastic reviews for its steering and handling. The precision is there based on reviews just not as much feedback. Agree with you. It will continue to improve as engineers tweak algorithms. |

The steering in the F85 X5 M was my biggest hesitation in placing an order. I was able to see the interior of the F85/F86 at an auto show, so I knew what to expect there, albeit not in the colors I chose. I was never able to test drive the vehicle before ordering, and taking delivery at the Performance Center.
I was incredibly pleased with the steering feel of this vehicle when I first drove it. While it doesn't have as intense of a feedback as the hydraulic system in my previous BMWs, it is a really pleasant drive, with enough feedback, accuracy/precision, and weight (I drive mine in sport mode for steering) to be satisfying. Can it be improved upon, sure, but what about vehicles, given enough time, can't be improved upon? |

Lol this isn't an SUV it's a tall car that's no more of an SUV than a Lexus RX 350.
It's going to take this thing 3.8 hours to get to 100kph in sand while the real luxury SUV's such as the Mercs, Porsches and Range Rovers cruise past it with ease. If the X5M is so great how come the X6M can't even beat a Range Sport SVR or cayenne turbo S on the ring? BMw should stick to making cars. Oh wait the X5 and X6 ARE high riding sedans! |

The cayenne turbo S is the fastest SUV around the ring and unless these results were all done same day same conditions I don't see much validity to them. They are so close I'd say the turbo S still is the king as it always has been.
