New tires
Wanted to give an opinion on new tires.
I replaced the POS Dunlops (after less than 15,000 miles I might add) with Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06 tires about a week ago. Big difference in ride quality. Road noise dropped significantly too. Steering response improved and even though the DWS are not run flats (run flats have stiffer sidewalls), these tires don't lay over in a turn - body roll feels like it is cut in half (still have a major smile on my face with this one). Since body roll is improved, I can take some of my favorite twisty roads significantly faster. This is also because the tires seem to have more grip and excellent feedback. Going over rough areas in road, over railroad tracks, gravel, the cockpit noise is reduced big time and much less vibration through the steering. It hasn't rained since I've had the tires installed, so no comment here. Otherwise, for $1280 installed, I am very happy with these tires (M Sport size) on this car. FYI - I ordered the invisible hitch and will install it next week so I can take my bikes.

Thanks for the review. This is my plan in the next couple of month to get the DWS06. I'm surprised to hear about body roll being reduced and steering response being improved.. I know there has been lots of reviews on the previous conti DWS where the steering response and handling suffered due to softer sidewalls. I guess the DWS06 improved on this?

I've gotta stick with runflats. I'm too much of a pu**y when it comes to riding around the Chicago minefields without a spare. Winter tires are on the horizon for me.

I'm still on the fence as far as RF goes. I don't want to give up a firm ride. but want something more durable than the Pirelli's that I have now. No one makes a RF with wear numbers at least in the 400's on a staggered setup.

Whats interesting is that when RFT first started to be equipped in BMW's most people complained about how heavy, noisy, and rough the tires rode.. They would immediately take them off and put on traditional tires. It seems the opposite now

I had a couple of PM's asking me for pictures, so here are three I shot on the way into town.
Also, two people asked if I have space-saver tire. No - I am a AAA member with towing up to 250 miles from home/shop/dealer. Since the run flats cannot be repaired if they go flat, and are only good for 50 miles if flat, I think the AAA is better and cheaper.

I think the conti's are an attractive looking tire with aggressive looking thread pattern. Looking forward to get mine on before it gets cold here.

@42pilot - do you happen to have kids and live in a cold climate? I'm really trying to justify non-RFT, but the thought of being stranded in subzero weather, while waiting for AAA, with my kids screaming at me is steering me away. Lol

My little one sleeps fine at highway speeds with the DWS06. Although, he slept fine with exhaust drone in my 5 series as well ha ha

I also swapped my Dunlops for DWS06's. I really liked the Dunlops, but needed an all season tire. I have used original DWS's on an M5 and Lexus IS, and they have been awesome (only gripe is the road noise), so I am expecting this new version to be even better.
Tread design is also important to me. The DWS06's, although similar to the original DWS, have a nicer pattern, especially on the outside. |

Tires looks good. If they are better than old DWS then they should be another class leading tire. Just curious what PSI are you running front and rear? The only complaint the old DWS had were soft sidewalls. Wondering if they improved this and if it would help if you ran 1-2psi higher all around.

This is important to me too - there is no road noise on asphalt roads. We have very little concrete here in central GA so I can't comment on that. At 70+mph, you'll hear wind noise and that's about it. Unless you have the screaming kids/wife drama going on....
