IND | RKP F85/F86 X5M/X6M Carbon Front Bumper Insert DIY

RKP’s front bumper inserts for the F85 X5M and F86 X6M were designed to remain congruent with BMW’s design language, adding aggressive lines to the OEM design of the front bumper. The RKP X5M and X6M front bumper inserts come in Gloss 2x2 weave with 3M tape pre-installed.

Tools required (supplied):
-3M adhesive promoter
-3M double sided tape

Available on our online store:
http://ind-distribution.com/ind/bran...bumper-inserts

Step 1:
As with most modifications, how you prep for installation is paramount to a successful install. RKP strongly encourages the use of 3M adhesion promoter (included with the spoiler) and as many know, that stuff is not a pleasant substance. As a result it is critical that you only apply the adhesion promoter to the area where the 3M tape will adhere.

Step 2:
Peel back about an inch portion of the red backing on the 3M tape. This will help you get the insert in the correct spot without sticking in the wrong position to the bumper.

Step 3:
Place the insert on the bumper trim making sure that the PDC cutout is aligned as well as the edge of the trim.

Step 4:
Once the insert is in place begin to peel the rest of the 3M backing tape off.

Step 5:
Press firmly on the insert to ensure there is a good bond on the insert and OEM bumper trim.

Step 6:
Reapeat steps 1-5 on the other side

Step 7:
Step back, crack a cold one and admire your hard work

So these stick over the top of the stock ones? I thought you had to replace the stock. What does the 3M Adhesive Promoter do? If you dont have, the adhesive promoter are there any substitute items that can be used? Thanks.

I believe the part comes with the 3M adhesion promoter. If you don't have it you can always just wipe it down with rubbing alcohol first. I've done this in the past without any issues. Key is to make sure the oem trim is 100% clean and the 3M tape is warm so its extra tacky.

A non-carbon version is not available. The carbon set can be painted in Gloss Black if you'd prefer.

They make replica parts. I would love to see RW make an original part.

aren't all CF replica parts any way? nothing is officially made by BMW! I purchased a CF steering wheel hand crafted in Istanbul turkey, you can all it replica, but i guarantee you you will not find such craftsmanship anywhere else!
bottom line, if the quality checks, the price is the deal breaker.
P.S. I will still buy accessories from Ind. as long as the price is right.

Perhaps Nate means that IND forms thier parts from mounds made from originals?

I'm a bit confused by the difference also.

For example, on the F85/F86 RKP made original designs (front lip and rear diffuser) RW waits for the parts to come out then makes a copy of the parts. RW can't create a design so they copy everything.

Understand that - RKP has to pass on the development cost.

The problem for the end consumer is they struggle to justify the additional expense.

In this case it's minimal and it makes sense to go with RKP IMO.
