Buying 4 X5M's for work. Please help me figure out what to pay!
Hey guys!
I run a successful IT company with 3 of my best friends and we are taking advantage of some tax incentives that are in place this year for new vehicles that are over a certain weight (combined with section 179). You can do this up to $500,000 so we decided to purchase 4 2017 X5M's in different colors. It ends up saving us a ton in taxes and we have always wanted X5M's ever since we drove them at the track where they are made back in 2013. We want them fully loaded and in 4 different colors (donington grey w/ argon brown, long beach blue w/ silverstone, alpine white w/ red, and black sapphire metallic w/ black.) We all want 21" rims, night vision, executive package, the sound system upgrade, park assist, driver assist, etc... The only thing we don't want is the rear entertainment package. We MUST have purchased these cars and driven away with them before December 31st at the absolute latest. My question: How much should we be paying for these? We live in Charlottesville, VA. The dealership is trying to give us 1500 off of MSRP each but that seems pretty bad to me considering we are buying 4. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. |

You should be able to get 7-8% off for just 1. So if you are buying 4 you should do a little bit better.
The toughest part will be finding a dealership with 4 in stock.

That's a large purchase, so I'd tell your dealer to take a hike if they can't do better. You're going to have to look in a big market to find four on the lot, especially to your specs. I'd consider calling multiple dealers (nationwide) and seeing what offers they present, with consideration of shipping to your location. You might also consider speaking with someone at BMW's regional or North American offices.

The right dealer can get on a locator and find close to what you want. Might need a couple of compromises with the 12-31 deadline. The dealer can trade other X5's etc to get them. I would build the entire 4 M package online, print it out, add up the grand total $ , multiply the total $ by 90% and write it down on the package. Take it to multiple dealers with a written deadline of xxxx. Somebody will step up. Good luck !

I ordered my 2016 X5 M back in March and was able to get 8% off. I would think you could get a similar discount, between 8% - 10%, if you find the right dealer. My car also came in only two weeks so if you found a dealer with four allocations or some in stock cars and some allocations you should be able to get the new cars in before 12/31.

I agree. I went to the dealer today to talk with them about returning my leased M5 and getting an X5M. Without negotiating they offered 5% off on an X5M order. They said that there is a lease pull ahead for my M5 right now but I am a month out of range. If the M5 is eligible in January and they don't have to eat my remaining three payments I was told 7% would not be a problem.

What a joke they offer you 1500 off msrp for 4 X5Ms! I would consider an insult and look elsewhere. Like everyone said, it's minimizing 7%, some get more than 10% even for 17' models.

I suspected this... Thanks guys, so much!
One twist to the story is that the dealership is telling me that they are "being made for me custom at the dealership right now because they "pulled strings" and had the cars moved to the front of the line. Apparently they are in production. I have not even officially seen pricing yet or agreed to any formal pricing so I am very confused how they are doing this. I put down a $1,000 deposit on one that was already on a lot but then they called to tell me that they were wrong about one of the options it was missing and so I told them to cancel. Before I knew it they told me they ordered all 4 custom for us and they will be in in the next week or two... Does that make any sense at all??? |

If you save so much in taxes...why you worry about a couple thousands here or there? Since you had such a great year. You should donate the cars after tax break to some charity to disabled veterans group!

(Also, Section 179 is great from a fellow IT guy who just used it on an X5.) |

They prob just got the cars in the specs you wanted from other dealerships or in transit. Your options are not out of line or uncommon after all.
You did picked the most popular combos btw |

I don't understand the whole "you have the money so just waste it" philosophy. I don't buy things unless I think I am getting a good deal.
To everyone else - thanks for the advice. I'm not dead set on a custom built one from the factory. I would like one with all of the options but I am fine with several colors. I just don't want to pay more than the cars are worth and the dealership has been hard to communicate with. |

Can you explain like I'm 5 what exactly is Section 179 and how you are using it? I did a google search but even then I don't really fully comprehend.
