if you don't compensate on the profile when going to a bigger rim don't you disrupt the differential?

if that is the case, going to a bigger rim will decrease the profile and make the ride harsher and have more dented rims and blown tires, especially on heavier vehicles?

further, doesn't wider tires equate to more drag and more road noise?

i thought these were all basic principles? i'm not that knowledgeable.
