Unless you splurge upon a hefty sump of money on gold , platinum models even if there's a loss it would be minimal or not as much as other brands .
However , let alone a loss from my own experience , after 3 years of ownership I was able to sold my Rolex Daytona 116500 LN 1.5 times as much price as I bought when it was new .
Bear in mind those models Daytona , Sky Dwellers (stainless steel ) ans some stainless steel Rolex watches are anything but possible to buy at list price .
If you don't pay over premium or above list price any Rolex then your best best could be buying a two tone sport models or Datejust
I don't a disadvantage of owning a Rolex at all . It's the most recognizable watch brand of the planet

And the shortage on steel watches is even greater now due to the Pandemic. I was at my AD today purchasing a Panerai Submersible, and I inquired about a new Rolex. He could have gotten me the two-tone Submariner (blue face) or any of the precious metal pieces, at MSRP, today, but a steel submariner/GMT/Daytona... the wait list is years unless you purchase grey market and pay a 20-30% (or more) premium or buy used (and still pay a premium over MSRP).
