Recap. I had squared 19” 467 rims with good year tires. I swapped them for staggered 20” 469 rims and continental tires. Bought the set complete with tires already mounted and sensors in the wheel so I just bolted on the new wheels and then tried to reset the TPMS and received a malfunction. New 469 wheels came from a CPO x5 of the same year as mine and sensors worked fine on that car.

Is it possible that that car used different type of sensors than my car of the same year uses? The car the wheels came from was an Sdrive and mine is an Xdrive. Would that matter?
Did you actually see the new wheels on an F15/F16 BMW with iDrive reporting tire pressures correctly for all 4 wheels, or are you taking someone's word that they worked?

Should be fairly straighforward to detect the signal from the sensors if they're working properly.
