I purchased the space saver spare option with my X5 so that I could easily make the switch to non-RFTs if necessary.

On a related note, the OEM Michelin all-seasons that came on my X5 seem to be doing much better now that I've put some more miles on them. They currently have about 2500 miles and seem to be better in snow, ice, and slush. I'm going to give them a bit more time because I'm happy with the comfort and noise levels.
Thank you- and I'll update accordingly. You were smart to order the spare, if only to have the option of carrying it on long trips. Having not ordered it, I'm left with a carpeted cavity that might accommodate a spare, but without an easy way to secure it within. On your Michelins, I can't speak to their SUV tires, but I've always been pleased with my PS2 and PSSs.

Hey Rick- Part# for the F15 Base Bars is 82712232293. I purchased mine from BMW of Morristown on eBay for $190 (vs. $275 quoted by my local dealer). The ski/snowboard rack is actually made by a company called Rocky Mounts. It's their LiftOp Small. I dislike the OEM ski/snowboard rack as well as the Thule and Yakima offerings because they're enormous and create way too much wind resistance/noise for my needs (just 1-2 boards). While Yakima makes a few nice sets (the Whisper Bar comes to mind), they mount with universal clamp-style feet (which can be a bit wonky/look unfinished). Conversely, the Rocky Mounts actually flush mount to the bar via the central rail in the OEM base bar, they're made (in the US)/finished in a way that makes them indistinguishable from the OEM base bars and they're less expensive than the Thule or Yakima holders.

Here's a close up of the LiftOp Medium on a VW GTI (similar base bars).
