Diesel is more efficient in the city so I went diesel route and very happy with it, almost 60K miles and 0 issues, around 27 MPG in traffic is great for AWD mid size SUV.
In theory there is less maintenance for diesel since you don't need to do plugs. I would recommend test driving both. Both a very reliable.
