Totally biased view (since I got one), but get a diesel. Fuel economy is amazing, especially for such big heavy vehicle - as high as 41mpg - which is a small hybrid car territory. Also, because of all the torque, car feels very responsive and much lighter than it is.
If you have any doubts which one to get, drive them back to back. 35i will feel gutless and sluggish compared to 35d.
