BMW likes to run the staggered set-up but you can find many performance SUVs and high performance SUVs running a square set-ups. Many people with the X5 switch over to a square set-up for the winter without any issues. You lose the aggressive look and stance on the car and sacrifice some rear traction in good road conditions, but usually not substantial noticeable. You can always use spacers on the rear wheels if the offset doesn't produce the desired look. If I remember correctly the Luxury line and X-line come with a standard square set up on 19" rims. Many like the Conti DWS06 for an all season tire. I'm in Pittsburgh and have had no issues driving around in fall and early spring with a square set-up. If you do desire a separate set, I'm selling my winter set-up off a E71 X6 that fit the F15/16.
