RS Audis have always excelled at straight line speed and mechanical grip, but they have historically been lacking compared to M BMWs in handling finesse. I would say that the gap has narrowed, from improvements by Audi, but also because M cars have all become way too heavy and luxury oriented.

Agreed for the most part. The same thing can be said for AMG as well. This is what makes a horse race, hence a better product for all. No Audi guy, but I have to admit, it's a great looking shooting brake (US station wagon).
