^^^ This is exactly right. I've driven coast highway 1 countless times and the tourism on the highway is amazing. You wouldn't believe how many new convertible Ford Mustangs are on the road. I've been told these are one of the favorite rental cars for tourists from Europe. I'm sure the amount of tourism money brought into the state because of the attraction to highway 1 outweighs the cost of keeping it in good repair.
