Oh, I think they will. But for the gold ones, I suspect folks will bin them en masse once something better comes along. They'll become valuable just like original Atari video games and Model T Fords have become.
It'll take time, probably a long time, as the watches are small and work for years, making folks reticent to discard them, but discard them they will. They'll become collector's items long before they begin to show a dramatic rise in price as such, but it'll happen, even if not in yours or my lifetime. Too, as you said, the huge quantity of the initial general issue also contributes to how long it'll take.
