I've spent time looking into this myself. The conclusion that I've drawn is that in 2016 they upgraded from nbt to nbt evo. In nbt evo you have the option of setting automatic steering wheel and seat heating based on outside temperature.

You can find nbt evo retrofit kits all over ebay but they're $1500us for the whole shebang including touchscreen.. Not worth it to me unless I had a remote starter already or something.
