I did it this way and it worked just fine. I actually had to pull a little slower as they didn't give me enough putty to surround the button and get a good grip but got it off and blue installed.

I'm also quite sure the buttons are the same at least until I see pics showing otherwise cuz the one I got from them looks identical in every way for my F15 as does the one in IND DIY.

Just installed the button that's available on Amazon (with putty) on my 2016 X5M. Ridiculously easy to do and I'm usually terrible at doing anything like this (world's worst tool user). Took two tries with the putty, which there was plenty of, but it came right out. Lined up the new button and pushed in. Done in less than 2 minutes.

Don't remove the panel - this method is so simple I can do it.
