I've never smelled diesel since I've owned it but it does idle a little louder than other modern BMW i6 engines. I've put over 1k miles on my 35D and rubbed my finger on the inside of the tailpipe yesterday out of curiosity...clean, less residue than I'd expect from a gas engine.
