I highly recommend taking the wheel off to sew it.
I removed the wheel, it's just a beast. I would definitely recommend putting the cover on your wheel and letting it stretch for a day or two before sewing. Also make sure you cut a large enough piece of thread, I got halfway done with a section and realized I wasn't going to make it. I would be lying if I didn't consider scrapping the project and just biting the bullet to send my wheel to Coby.
