2017 introduced Apple Car Play, wireless charging, and the updated iDrive. Apple Car Play was a $300 stand alone option/not standard, though most seem to have it. Wireless charging was part of the Executive Package/not standard, though most X5M's have this package.
Beyond that, there is no difference between a 2015 & 2017. It comes down to what your friend desires more - a lower mileage example that's 2 years older or the 2017 with triple the miles of the 2015, but a bit newer.
