Needless to say, it's a jerky affair for a while. I do take care to avoid high rpms and 100% throttle until about 1000 km or so.

Knock on wood, but since adopting this technique, I have never had an engine that required an oil top up between changes. That includes my X5M, which I have had for a little over a year.
