2014 X5 Heated Seats

I feel like the heated seats in my X5 are not working.

My sister was in the car with the heated seats on max and after 15 minutes she had to ask if they had turned off. I had a 2009 X5 and I could feel the warmth of the seat over jeans and a heavy coat. With my 2014, bare skin on the seat and I can barely feel the heat.

I asked BMW service to take a look and they said everything was functioning properly. They even pulled out an IR thermometer to show that the seats were heating up to around 98-99 degrees Fahrenheit, and a couple of spots on the seat registered at 100 degrees Fahrenheit at the highest temp.

They also said I could redirect the heat from the back part of the seat to the bottom and vice versa. But on my 2009, both parts of the seat got hot without having to sacrifice the other. I was in a loaner for that day and I felt like the loaner got warmer than my 2014 (not as hot as 2009) also without having to redirect the heat.

Are any of you experiencing this, too? Or am I just going crazy?

No complaints on my 2014. I typically just use them on '1', the Mrs. likes hers on '3', which is way too hot for my liking.

Would you happen to know the temperature your car is reaching on the highest setting?

Sounds like something is wrong with your car. When mine are on three, it is almost uncomfortably hot. Then after a few minutes it lessens but it is still significantly hot. When on "one" there is noticeable heat but not so much that I need to turn them off. I would head to the dealer and sit in a loaner or other car on the lot and turn them on just for comparison.

I did. I asked them to bring out a different vehicle to test the temperature and its temperature readings were similar. I feel like I don't have a good argument when they show me a thermometer that says it's warming up even though it doesn't feel warm.

I'd have to throw a meter on it. I'll try and get you a number over the coming days.

As other said, on '1' mine feels pretty warm. On '3' it cooks my eggs

How do you redirect the heat btw?

It's in the BMW iDrive system under climate control. It's the first menu item, above the place where you can set ventilation times, called "Seat heating" or something like that.
