2015 X5 adaptive headlight malfunction / vertical

hey there
Independent bmw shop just emailed that car needs passenger headlight assembly ($2800+) as BMW doesn't sell the internal module separately. As old as the car is that feels kinda dumb. What should I be asking or looking for? A quick google search looks like an aftermarket part does exist or maybe a refurb. Any info appreciated or point me to a guide. Wouldn't think twice about installing myself if its the circuit board under the bulb assembly, but looks like coding is possibly required? that looks to be debated maybe incorrectly? Thanks in advance
