Can 'Voice Control System' be dealer retrofited on E92?
Does anyone know if the 'Voice Control System' can be dealer retrofited on E92?
The car has Sat Nav Pro and Bluetooth + Telematics. Is it just a software update or does it require replacing any electronics? Thanks SRL |

Vocie Control Query
VCS should have been included for nowt with your spec. Just checked my order - Option 620 Voice Control System priced at 0.00, as SA3 Pricing Rule for 620 Voice Control (Option Code Z4F) applies.

Didn't you post before asking about the voice control option codes and pricing rules? I'm pretty certain (and I thought you had also established this with your dealer) that if you get nav and bluetooth you MUST get voice. |

Hi All
You are all absolutely correct, the 'Voice Control System' is a 'no cost option' when you order: 633 - Bluetooth phone prep + telematics - £535.00 609 - Navigation-system Professional - £1,970.00 Z4F - SA3 Pricing Rule for 620 Voice Control - £0.00 The problem is that the dealer did not realise/understand that he also needed to select option 620 - Voice Control System - £0.00, in the vehicle ordering system for this to be installed. By the time I had realised the dealer’s oversight - through this excellent forum group and its members, the car was already past the point in manufacture to change/add anything!!! The dealer is trying to do everything they can to correct their oversight and error, but the option of adding ‘Voice Control System’ to the car as a retrofit is unable to be technically confirmed by BMW AG. Very, Very Frustrating!!! I have two options: Accept the car without the ‘Voice Control System’ option, with the hope that one day BMW AG will offer it as a retrofit and have it installed free of charge by the dealer. Or Order the car again and have to wait until Sept for delivery. The dealer has also said that they would have to reduce the part ex value of my trade in car because of the delay associated with this option. God, I am so tied of the stress of this purchase…………… Stress = 100 Enjoyment = 0 |

At the end of the day if BMW puts its mind to it then anything is retrofittable (apart from possibly a sunroof) if you think about it - its all just wires and bits of kit. It may be a big job but considering your dealer must've come straight from school and be on his first day not to know this it's the least they can do to sort it out.
Don't get stressed about it - make it the dealer's problem, they f***** up so let them sort it. Would the "another dealer has offered me an existing allocation car with everything I want and not a long wait so if you can't sort it I'm walking and want my deposit back" approach work ?

LRS, its simple as has been said your stealer has dropped a b*****k.
This is not your problem, but i can assure you that when you have accepted your new car without VCS your friendly little salesman will wipe his hands and i'd forget the retro-fit story. You need to be compensated for his Feck up,have a look thru what he can offer and try to do a deal |

If it's the dealer's mistake then they ought to put it right, and not penalise you for it. Therefore even if they have to order another car they should not be changing the part-ex value of your existing car, they should in fact be compensating you for having failed to meet the quoted delivery date with a car to the correct specification and meeting ny and all costs that you would not otherwise have to meet, such as MOTs before the car turns up.
I would have thought that as you have all of the other components of the system that are necessary such as Nav and the phone system that it would probably require little more than the fitting of the right module and some re-coding. If you do decide to take the car as is then I'd be pushing for something in return, like the 5yrs service package perhaps? Goodluck! .... and goodluck tonight silver

Thanks to everyone for your feedback and support.
I strongly feel that if the car cannot have the Voice Control System retrofitted prior to me collecting it in June and also providing that the retrofit does not require tearing the car apart to fit – I would be worried that this could result in new squeaks and rattles! I will not accept the car. I will certainly not accept it under the promise of fitting the retrofit when or if it ever becomes available. I will have no other option but to start all over again with a new car order with the correct specification, arriving in Sept….. Does anyone know how the Factory Allocation slots work between dealers? If I decided to go to another dealer to place the new order, could they potentially have a slot earlier than Sept? Thanks |

They may do, it's worth asking around

If I were in your shoes I would tell my dealer that the car better come with voice control - or they may as well send it back.
If the dealer has f*cked up then he needs to sort it. Voice Control is very useful and it makes sense of idrive. I use it every day. |

Hi,
Did this story have a happy ending? From what I can see so far there isn't a hardware difference between a bluetooth car without voice and a bluetooth car with voice - or is there? From what I can see all bluetooth cars have a MULF and this does the voice as well? Or is there a subtlety with the black box known as a "TCA" - if thats the right TLA? Cheers |

Voice control works well for me, unless there is someone in the car with me then for some reason the car knows and much hilarity occurs.
The trick is to wait a second after she asks you a question until the little speaker signal pops up on the dash, if you say "yes" too quickly or before this appears the results can be dodgy to say the least... My worst is "Dial name" then I get the response "Long Wave ON" damn that's annoying ! SJ |
