I need you mechanic's opinions.
Hi Guys,
I have 2016 BMW X6 -Xdrive and about 100k miles. I know it is a lot. Recently, car feels little shake around 40 miles speed and I drop car to BMW service and did alignment. After that car feels same as before and I drop it again and they told me car need to replace a front differential and engine mounts. After they replace those parts, service advise call me and told me car has been fixed but still shake and this time they need to change a transfer case and left CV axle. When I got my car back and drive, fond out there was very loud knocking and clicking noise from right side. I drop the car again and service advise tole me they have to replace left cv seal and something. When I ask why, he told me my left side is a new and right side is old because of this it makes those noise. I really don't get it. and I think they broke some parts when they remove all those parts and try to cover up on me. What do you guys think? Do I really need all those parts for little bit shaking problems? My other shop[ mechanic told me I only needed a CV axle and they replaced un necessary parts. I just need you mechanic's opinions. Thank you guys. |

I think your dealer is making a lot of money off you, and agree with your [other] mechanic that not all the repairs were necessary.
Think about it: usually, there is a root cause for shaking. Although the cause may not be readily apparent, it seems like your dealer, rather than take the time to properly identify the cause, just started replacing parts. I would be displeased too. |

Hmm, and when I tell SA I don't understand and it is un acceptable, he said take a car back if I don't feel uncomfortable.
But After they fixed the car, noise starts and I don't want to take my car back and take all responsibility on me. I don't know what to do this moment. Thank you guys. |

If this was an older model... I would say it's likely a bad Giubo, as the symptoms mimic that.... But i don't think these models use a Giubo? I'm just not sure?

Problem is that if I take my car back, then I have to fix it by myself.
I still don't get it why I have to pay for the problem it didn't have before. So I have to wait and let see how it goes. I will keep it update you guys. |

Not to say something more isn't screwed up at this point from the parts replacement. However, I can't imagine you needed all those parts. With a minor shake you always start with the cheapest item and then go from there. Re-balance tires, check for bent wheel, check for tire out of round, check alignment, suspension bushings, etc....
Seems they just skipped over all of those items.

Are you paying for the repairs or your extended warranty company?
This exactly is the reason why I don't take my cars to the dealers...They might keep changing and charging you the parts while still trying to troubleshoot the issue. If I was you, since changing the motor mounts/ differential and transfer case didn't fix the problem, I would ask for the money back, for sure? Also since you've already spent so much money at the dealer, I would rather sit down with the service manager and have a talk with him. Ask him after having replaced so many parts, what guarantee would there be that it won't be some other random part making the noise? I won't let them touch it until they give you an answer? |

Get a good lawyer. Have him/her draft up a letter to the head of the dealership. Stating they charged x amount on x dates and the problem still exist. And this has been an ongoing issue since x. If the issue is not fixed there will be a compliant filed on your behalf with the Better Business Bureau. Provide copies of all of your recipes with the letter. The head of the dealership should look into this matter and take you complaint seriously and have the issue fixed.

Yes, 100K on a 2016 is a ton of mileage and you should expect to replace suspension parts. 1. Yes the clicking noise is dead-on indication that your CV joint is bad 2. Stop taking it to the dealer 3. Find a reliable Indy or do the work yourself. 4. The transfer case sounds like garbage to me 5. I would have checked control arm bushings, struts, wheels and tires before i would have come up with the transfer case 6. Honestly, if they didn't even bother to take the car on drive to see if the problem was fixed, I would never take my car there again. |

I'm also on board with the guibo if it does in fact have one.
My e70 would shake if the pedal was pressed with any decent acceleration you'd have to baby it while accelerating to keep it from shaking. Also if accelerating decently from a stop youed here a noise like something hitting the floor and that was the drive shaft wobbling around. Does it shake only while accelerating or coasting? If the guibo is shot it deforms under load and looking at it doesn't always show failure Also find a new dealer as their robbing you blind. Car shaking is usually caused by things out of balance so start their. Anything that requires perfect rotational balance look at it for issues. |

They fixed the shaking problem. No more shaking.
It has a clicking and nocking noise when I pedal and slow down. They didn't change the guibo so it wasn't the guibo. |

Whoaaaaa..... Those are some pricey componants.. There's No Way all of that was bad.. If you don't mind me asking... What was the total repair cost? The clicking noise could possibly be the Front Right CV axle joint.
