The new X5 came in and I took it upon myself to take her back to where I last took some nice photos of the F15.
The F15 was Black Sapphire Metallic and the G05 is Carbon Black. |

I went with size 275/35/22 front and 315/30/22 rear, even though the car is lowered I was afraid It would rub but everything is good! |

How does she drive relative to the F15? Much more refined? I know this one is a hybrid so not apples to apples, but nonetheless.

1. Objectively the G05 is better than the F15 in every way - quieter, faster, better build quality (at least interior) and better tech. There is no doubt, BMW did a great job with upgrading the X5. 2. Subjectively, the F15 has a more rugged look inside and a simpler outside design that appeals to me. The interior reminds me more a typical BMW with the dashboard that wraps around the driver a bit more. 3. I have had G05 40i loaners (so base level) at least 3 times (last was this week when I took it in for oil change and maintenance). I prefer my 50i in every way. Although the G05 is much quieter. My 2018 with DHP is definitely better than the stock the loaners have. I was lobbying my wife hard to get a 45e, but she went with an iX. She loves the iX and having driven it a few times, it's beat every expectation I had. It's like having a private jet for every trip Your photos are A+!!!!! |

In regards to #1 and #2 above, this is right inline with each new generation of BMW. I had an E70 X5 for many years and going to the F15 was the same thing - faster (both were 50i's), quieter, more refined, less rugged looking, etc. In many ways those are good things, and while I much prefer the F15, I still miss the sounds and driving dynamics of the older BMWs. The E70 50i sounded way better than the F15 50i, felt like a heavy battle tank going down the road, and the steering was way better. So how would you describe the differences in sound between your F15 50i and the G05 50i that you store for your friend? IMO if you're buying a V8 it should not be quiet |

I started with an E70, then the F15, now the G05. They get a little bit less aggressive each generation. The E70 was indeed like a tank. Heavy steering, solid DHP suspension and drove like a locomotive. Incredibly solid. Really had to get used to the F15 steering, but even with no-suspion is was a little less rugged but much more comfortable. I couldn't pay my wife to take a second look at the E70 once the F15 came in. It looked OK on 20" wheels but really needed the 21" wheels to bring it up to acceptable levels. The G05 is by far the least aggressive. Although she is technically the widest of all, she just doesn't have the rear hips "look". Still, I'd have to pry it out of my wife's hands at this point even after just a few hundred miles! |

I might have mentioned it before the F15 has more creaks and the G05 has more rattles in trunk (the auto luggage cover is the culprit here) but it might be related to first year of a new model thing. |
